~ Twenty Years Ago ~

"Mommy!" I called, slamming the door shut behind me as I darted into the living room of the mobile home we lived in. Uncle David had just dropped me off after keeping me with him all week. It had been fun I guess, we went to the movies, and the museum, and the park, all the things that Mommy's boyfriend never let us do, but Uncle David said he couldn't watch me anymore so I had to come back home.

"Mommy!" I yelled again, but there weren't any noises in the house, and it made me uncomfortable. Mommy was supposed to be here. I set my backpack down on the couch and took off into my room. All my stuff was gone, all that was left was my bed, and a bunch of boxes stacked up on the ground.

"Mommy?" I called, tears now falling down my face as I left what used to be my room and decided to search for her.

I found her in her room. She was slumped on the bathroom floor, with a bottle of bleach next to her hand, and clear liquid with streaks of red in it, around her. She wasn't moving.

"Mommy?" I whimpered, not bothering to avoid the strange liquid as I tried to get as close to her as possible. She wasn't breathing, the normal rise and fall of her chest was gone, and when I knelt down to hug her, she didn't move.

"Mommy?" I cried, laying across her chest, but she still didn't move.

"What the fuck have you done?" I heard the growl from the bathroom door, and when I turned to look, it was Mommy's boyfriend, glaring down at me with rage written across his face.

"What's wrong with Mommy?" I cried, staring up at him, but he wouldn't look at her.

"She's dead because of you, you little bitch!" He roared, and picked me up by my hair, dragging me away from her body. I screamed, kicking my legs out as he pulled me. He didn't pull me very far, just enough so that I was off her body, and then he dropped me in a heap in front of the sink.

He didn't leave me alone for long. He pulled something on the sink, and then he picked up the bottle of bleach, and poured it all into the sink. Before I could even stop crying, he yanked me up, and dunked me into the sink full of bleach. My eyes were screaming at me, the bleach burning them. I tried to close my eyes, but that hurt too, and I could do nothing but scream into the liquid as the bleach burned my eyes, my nose, and my throat as I choked on it.

When he yanked me out, I threw up. The bleach that I had swallowed poured out my mouth, with streams of red in it and I knew that it was blood, just like Mommy. I blinked once, and when I opened my eyes again I couldn't see anything, everything was dark and for a minute I thought that my eyes were just closed, since they burned with pain I had never felt. But when I reached up to touch my eyes,I felt something squishy instead of the normal smooth feel of my eyelids.  I jerked my hands away when I realized I had just touched my eyes and not the skin of my lid.

I was blind.
