"Vi, seal the main entrance. Kill the power up here." There was a strange hum, and then silence as we were led by the man into what I believed was an elevator based on the small cramped-ness of the room we were in, and how close together we ended up being pressed. There was a rattle, like the sound of a door being closed, and then a beep and I felt the room shake and knew we were in an elevator.
"Rick Grimes." I heard from ahead of me as something warm and soft brushed up against my elbow, and something sharp pressed against my back. We really need to get to wherever we are going before I freak the freak out.
"Dr. Edwin Jenner." Well at least I have a name for a voice now.
"Doctors always go around packing heat like that?" Daryl's rough voice rumbled from right behind my ear, and I almost jumped, since I hadn't realized exactly how close we were standing.
"There were plenty left lying around. I familiarized myself. By you look harmless enough. Except you. I'll have to keep my eye on you." There was a chuckle that ran through the group, and I was wondering what exactly I had missed, but decided it wasn't worth asking about. And a moment later the elevator doors opened, and a hand on my back urged me out to follow the rest of the group.
"Are we underground?" Carol whispered from somewhere to the left of me, and I noticed she sounded a little bit frantic.
"Are you claustrophobic?" Jenner asked sharply, without a hint of sympathy and I immediately didn't like him.
"A little."
"Try not to think about it. Vi, bring up the lights in the big room." There was a hum, and a beeping noise, and then everyone stopped walking, and I copied them.
"Welcome to Zone Five." Jenner said, and I realized there was no one here when I couldn't hear anything except the breathing of our group.
"Where is everybody? The other doctors, the staff?" Lori asked, sounding very worried, and I realized it wasn't just me that was nervous about this situation.
"I'm it. It's just me here." Jenner answered sharply.
"What about the person you were speaking with? Vi?" Lori asked again, and I gripped Max's hand just a bit tighter as he shuffled more into my side.
"Vi, say hello to our guests. Tell them... welcome."
"Hello, guests. Welcome." An automated female voice rang out from the ceiling and I knew she had to be some sort of AI that the C.D.C. was programmed with.
"I'm all that's left."
