"Surprise!"
A joyful voice had sang, and Daisy could have screamed seeing Bao climbing over the Gryffindor bench to sit down in front of her.
It was the most joy she'd felt since Bao had left.
"We missed you!" Heather wrapped the girl in a tight hug, and Daisy couldn't keep a wonderful smile off her face.
If she could jump over to table she would, but Professor McGonagall would not be at all pleased. so she had to settle for words. "We haven't done anything without you, we've waited."
"Tsk, you didn't need to do that! I'm only one person."
"An important one at that." Heather added quickly.
Bao's face had then reddened shyly, and she turned her attention towards the breakfast sitting on the table.
"Oi! Are you ready for our bake off yet?" Benjamin's thick Scouse accent interrupted.
"I'm ready whenever you are."
Daisy had almost forgotten the fun she could have here, when she wasn't looking into magic mirrors or planning a werewolf hunt at night...
"Oh Daisy! You can take us tonight!" Bao's excitedly grabbed Daisy's hands in her own from across the table, a wide grin on her face that was always hard to say no to. Watching the light in her eyes disappear would be worse than getting lost in the dark woods.
Would that be a good idea? It would be after hours and with a werewolf around-
"Excellent idea! You'll do that for us won't you?" Now Benjamin was looking at her with hope filled eyes.
It was like two puppies standing in front of her asking for treats...
"Yeah... of course." All while her knees began to quiver.
But a promise had been made. Fortunately it wasn't the day of the full moon yet, they'd be safe for now. There would be no chance of Daisy leading her friends out into the castle if otherwise.
The children were thrilled, neither of them having been to the kitchens yet besides Daisy. She became very popular because of this secrecy of hers. Mary would write down lists of the treats she would like and she would give Daisy the magical money called a galleon for it. Lily wasn't at all happy with her sister creeping about the castle, but on the days she craved something sweet, Daisy would be the one to retrieve a tart from the kitchens. Alice wasn't so much bothered. She'd knick Mary's sweets and claimed that 'Frank was the only sweet stuff she needed.' Which Daisy could only turn away and cringe at. And Marlene would attempt in following her, only to lose direction and wander back to the tower, after taking multiple other wrong turns.
All throughout the day of the well anticipated bake off, Benjamin talked big and Bao would keep a poker face. In transfiguration, Bao's pillow that the first years were to decorate looked exactly like a baked cookie filled with chocolate chips. Benjamin's was brown.
"What time will we go?" Bao had asked becoming restless. Daisy who was staring out of the window of the Gryffindor tower, her eyes on the cloudy sky above that hid the early moon that was inching closer and closer to a full sphere, was wishing her dad was here, he'd know what to do, and if he didn't he'd take her home where it would be safe.
"Eight o'clock, curfew isn't up and dinner is well over, so we have lots of time." She answered towards the glass.
Outside, she began observing a few students throwing sparks at one another, just around twenty feet away from the forbidden forest. She wondered if they knew what hides in there, or what comes out in the dark. Daisy didn't completely know either, except the possibility of werewolves, and whatever a thestral is, thinking back on her conflict with Sirius' younger brother deep into the woods.
