"Are you certain?" Bao questioned as the three first year girls trailed down the long grassy hill towards their Care Of Magical Creatures class.
As hard as it was, throughout Lily's party Daisy had kept the snitch a secret. After a restless night of twisting and turning and her suddenly jolting awake, Daisy had blurted about the magic mirror once they had left the castle, ensuring they weren't near any other students.
It sounded insane, like something straight out of a book, she was completely aware unfortunately, and wasn't expecting anybody to believe her wild tale.
"Yes! I'll show you the snitch when we get back to the dorm." She insisted.
The snitch in which Daisy found in her pocket was locked away in her desk drawer, wrapped up in a thick pair of socks so it couldn't fly away.
Bao furrowed her brows. As much as she did believe Daisy, she couldn't help but ask. "Do you think you were drugged? Some of the potions we make can make me dizzy, I was seeing butterflies around my head."
"That's because you added too much powder silly." Heather laughed.
"Oh... If that's the case... maybe someone moved the mirror to keep it away from everyone."
"Why would they move it though?" Heather's question was what Daisy too was wondering, just quieter. Staring off into the forest while her friends chatter turned into background music.
Going over the night, it all seemed surreal. She could imagine her parents reaction if she ever told them what happened.
"Wow! That school really is full of surprises isn't it dear?" Her mother would over exaggerate a shocked look, and gasp as if she were getting ready to make a balloon animal. Her father would nod his head, his mind would be elsewhere. "Yes that's sounds amazing! I wish I could do that, pull money out of the mirror whenever I wanted to." He would joke, then go back to reading his newspaper.
They wouldn't believe her, not for a second. It was childish — being a child and all. But this was real. She couldn't have imagined it because the snitch was in her bedroom probably cutting a hole through her cotton socks to escape.
She felt like a fool trying to gain attention with her made up stories — that were actually true.
"Uhm... maybe it was a secret thing. Maybe you weren't meant to find the mirror." Bao made a good point there. Yet, it still didn't make any sense as to why it did what it did. Would it be too risky to ask a teacher? Probably. She shouldn't have been out at night, she shouldn't have been in the kitchens, and she shouldn't have been in that cupboard.
"True... but that doesn't explain what I saw. What do you think?"
Just as Daisy feared, the girls fell quiet.
Professor Kettleburn was waiting at the bottom of the trial for the Gryffindor and Hufflepuff students to arrive, and Daisy honestly didn't want to go. She had to figure out why the mirror gave her the snitch after holding off for so long, she didn't have time to learn about flabbergasters or whatever weird name she would be hearing today.
"Well... from what you've told us, it sort of sounds like the future doesn't it? You're older, a quidditch player, head girl, seems like you've got everything sorted." Bao started again. That was Daisy's initial thought. Part of herself hoped that was the case. If it was, she was destined for something great.
"What if it's a trick though? That's why it's locked up in a dusty cupboard." Daisy and Bao fell quiet at Heather making her point.
That would explain why Lily and Petunia looked so happy...
