It was time to present to the council. I was pretty nervous considering I've had to avoid them many times to make sure I didn't get sent to Stillwater.
"Are you guys ready?" Caitlyn asked. I looked over at Vi slightly unsure, she grabbed my hand and gave it a little squeeze. Vi nodded at Caitlyn as did I. Caitlyn led us over to where the council meeting was taking place.
As we walked in I felt the stare of some council members. I eyes glanced at every person, then I focused my eyes towards the floor in front of me.
"Councilors my daughter and her friends have a unique insight to our situation." Caitlyn's mother spoke as she stood up. Caitlyn gave her a nod. "Thank you. Councilors, this is Vi and Iris. They were born in the undercity. Even though we failed them in countless ways, they risked everything to show me what life is like down there."
My eyes moved up from the floor and over to Caitlyn, as did Vi. I sent her a quick smile as she continued. "People are staving, sick, ravaged by shimmer. They live in constant fear of the coordinated efforts of violent crime lords. One man leads these efforts. Silco."
One of the councilors who looked like a robot spoke up. "We've done investigation of Silco. The yielded no such level of organization." I scoffed raising an eyebrow. "And who led those investigations?" The room fell silent for a second before someone else spoke up. "What does this Silco even want from us?"
I got bored and started cracking my knuckles, along with my neck. Caitlyn continued her speach. "He believes the undercity should be Independent. He calls it the nation of Zaun." The same man started to speak again. "What about these, do you know who made them?"
As I looked at the bomb he laid on the table my hard dropped a bit. I looked over at Vi as she gave my hand a reassuring squeeze. She stepped forward. "Her name is Jinx." "And this Jinx has the Gemstone?" Caitlyn nodded. I couldn't help but cringe at the name 'Jinx', that wasn't her name.
The man stood up slamming his fist into the table. "We have to go in by force." I furrowed my eyebrows has my mouth opened. "That's going to trigger a war, you can't do that. There are good people down there!" A councilor scoffed. "Bad ones too." I looked over at Vi who was rolling her eyes.
"Even if we wanted to invade, they have Shimmer." A councilor spoke. The man who was being incredibly annoying was now standing at the window. "We have Hextech." Caitlyn threw her arms in the air gently. "What happened to you?" "We've been talking about talking for weeks now. They're still cleaning blood off the bridge. When do we say enough is enough?"
A beautiful dark skinned councilor spoke. "Jayce, you don't know war. I do. It must be our last resort. There may be a diplomatic solution." Jayce, god ugly name. "She's right." A blonde spoke.
Vi stepped forward with a disgusted look. "What? You want to negotiate with him?" "It may be the only way to avoid further bloodshed." Caitlyn's mother said. I stepped forward into the circle with Vi. "So let there be bloodshed. Do you people really not know anything?" I shrugged. "You can't talk to him! He hates you, and everything you stand for." Vi shouted. I agreed. "He will never back down."
The dark skinned women looked at Vi and I with sympathy. "Enforcers, please escorted them out." I rolled my eyes, as did Vi. "Forget it, we know where you fancy damn door is." She grabbed my hand started to walk out. I turned around to the councilors and sent them and slime, only to flip them off.
Vi led us out of the building. As we walked into the rained I jumped from the cold, causing our hands to let go. Vi didn't stop walking. "Vi where are you going?" I asked, sheading my eyes from the rain. "Oh, I don't know, back where I came from? Seems like that's what everyone up here wants." Her voice was low, and hurt. "I want you here."
Vi finally stopped walking, she turned around and faced me. I couldn't tell if she was crying or it was just the rain. She came over and gave me a hug, it felt like a goodbye hug. "I'm sorry hun." Tears formed in my eyes. I pulled away from the hug and pulled her into a kiss. She immediately kissed back and put a hand on my cheek. After a few minutes she pulled away, then Caitlyn came running out.
"Where are you going? We can fix this?" "We can't!" Vi snapped. This is how things are, how they've always been. I was so stupid to think it could change." I put a hand on her shoulder. "You never know, Vi." "There must be something else we can do, some other way. We have to try." Caitlyn encouraged.
Vi shook her head. "We tried, it wasn't enough. Topside and bottom. Oil and water. That's all there is." My heart sunk as a tear left my eye. "What about us." She looked at he with puppy eyes, but she forced them to go away as she shook her head. "Oil and water. It wasn't meant to be."
"No Vi, you're just saying that, stop." I cried. "Do you're self a favor, Cupcake. Just forget about me." Vi put her hood up and started to walk away. I fell to my knees as my mouth was hung open. I pulled my knees up and buried my head into them.
"Iris it's alright, she will come back." She placed a hand on my shoulder and I quickly pushed it away standing up. "No, she won't." I snapped. "That was my last chance, now she's gone." My voice was raspy and my heart was pounding. "Goodbye Caitlyn."
I hung my head low as I walked a different way then Vi went. I was headed back to the undercity, but I didn't know where to go.
I walked the streets of the undercity for what felt like hours. I came to a stop and sat on a bench. My face was numb, no emotion. I started to cry slightly as I dug my nails into my knees. I heard footsteps from behind me but I didn't care enough to look.
My cries fell silent as the world went black.
