A few weeks later
Minho and Jisung have gotten undeniably closer. Spending every morning and afternoon together followed by almost every weekend. They were attached by the hip. If they weren't together, they were definitely texting. Usually about nothing of importance, just sending random memes or pictures back and forth to spark conversation. Jisung practically lived at Minho's house as much as he did his own. Minho's mom and step-dad absolutely adored Jisung, using any chance to tease the two, saying they'd be so cute together. Every time the two blush and brush them off, saying they're just friends. Jisung's not too sure anymore.
You can only take so many sleepovers before you start to hope that something more than just sleeping happens. Every time Jisung goes to sleep, their limbs intertwined and bodies pressed together, he hopes he never has to wake up and face the next day. There's been a thought drifting around in Jisung's head, but he doesn't want to accept it. Jisung knows himself. If he ..... Minho, he won't be able to just act normal. He knows that if he's having these thoughts or even entertaining that possibility, it's probably already true. But admitting it makes it real. He doesn't want it to be real. If it's real, he'll have to give up the sleeping in on Saturday mornings in Minho's arms. He'll have to give up the flirting every morning on the way to the bus stop. He'll have to give up Minho. He can't .... Minho. There's no way. Even if he does, Minho doesn't feel the same.
Minho could have anybody he wanted, why would he want Jisung off all people? Minho's literally perfect. He's beautiful, inside and out. And that's why Jisung needs to stop himself while he's ahead. He needs to separate himself from Minho. Not a lot to where Minho notices there's something wrong. The last thing he wants is to stress Minho out, but Jisung can't keep going down this dangerous path. He'll start with small things. Maybe not flirting as much, spending a little more time at his own home alone or with Hyunjin, not sharing his earbuds every morning, things Minho won't necessarily notice immediately. It's a good plan. It's a way for Jisung to keep himself in check without completely cutting Minho off. The school week starts again and Jisung decides now is as good a time to start. He finishes getting ready and heads outside, seeing the familiar boy standing at the end of his driveway.
"Hey, Sung." Jisung just smiles, too afraid to say anything and put a stop to his plan before he even begins. They walk in comfortable silence. Minho can sense something is off, he just doesn't know what. "Everything okay?" He questions, softly.
"Yeah, I just didn't sleep great last night." He wasn't technically lying. He really didn't. He was up all night thinking of Minho.
"Why's that?"
"Just thinking."
"Wanna talk about it?" Minho can sense the younger's hesitation. "You don't have to if don't wanna. Just know that I'm here, okay?" Minho reached out and gently grabbed Jisung's hand, intertwining their fingers. Jesus, this is gonna be hard. Jisung tried to think of any excuse he could to let go of Minho's hand. He didn't want to, he really didn't, but he needed to. He let go and checked his phone, acting as if he was seeing the time.
"We should probably hurry or we'll miss the bus." Minho glanced down at the watch on his wrist and checked the time himself. The bus doesn't come for another ten minutes...
"Are you sure you're just tired?" Minho reached out to pat the younger's head, knowing it usually calms him down. Usually. But this time, Jisung slightly jerked away from the touch. It was a microscopic movement, but Minho still notices. He always notices. The way he's knawing on his bottom lip as if he's nervous. The way he occasionally rubs his hands onto his jeans, almost as if he's wiping them off. His fingers are brushing through his hair more than usual. The way Jisung is twitching every time they make contact instead of leaning into it. Something is wrong. The one thing he can't figure out is what. What has Jisung this off his rocker? He's been sleep-deprived before, Jisung is certainly not just tired. Something or someone is stressing him out.
