Aitri was unbelievably confused. The guy that looked quite normal just a few seconds ago, with a talent so soulful, was suddenly nothing but a man killing monster. But Aitri was needed now. This was her first ever test to prove everyone wrong. She had to stop the fossegrim, or whatever its name was.
The monster was closing down on them, constantly asking for a payment. Rick asked him if he would take money, but he said, "What would I do those colourful mortal pieces of paper? I want something that could keep me full for days. Human flesh. Kill that good-for-nothing driver of yours, and bring his flesh to me, or I will kill you."
Rick reacted to it, and was the first to attack. He drew a rune like C and summoned fire, and then, threw it on the monster. It hit him and disappeared. It was as if the fossegrim was immune to it. Aitri spread her arms, and took control of the air around, and then, tried to attack him with the air. Even that didn't work. The fossegrim was too strong. Rick kept on summoning runes and attacking with his magic. He cast an I rune, and all the wood under the fossegrim was frozen with ice. It was still going up, with Rick's plan being clear: freeze the whole monster itself. The monster slammed his feet on the ground, however, the ice broke into pieces. "I am immune among water. You can't win." The boat was constantly tilting, and could dispose them under the sea anytime soon.
Aitri realized that she was in the middle of water too. And given she was Njord's champion, this was properly Njord's domain, with no land nearby. Aitri put her hand inside the water, and tried to create waves to make the sea move. She had just figured it out on how to use her water powers to move a boat (thanks to Rishi's forcing her to watch such movies).
Sadly for her though, the fossegrim was one step ahead. "This is my boat, girl." He said, "It only obeys me, and none of your godly powers will work on it." Angered at the immediate failure of her plan, Aitri spread her arms and closed her eyes. She felt like she could touch the water at that moment, without even actually touching it. She raised her hands, raising the water with her, and splashed all the salt water on the monster, who just waved his long hair and said, "Thanks, it refreshes me."
"He's literally invulnerable." Rick said, gasping for breath, "Fire, no effect, water, no effect, air, no effect."
"Ice, no effect." The fossegrim said, "Just give up, kids. Kill the mortal that came with you. Don't make me kill you."
"You can keep try, idiot." Rick screamed, "No one is dying on my watch."
"Look, I was just helping you guys out."
"You don't need to. Help you Giant King."
Help! Right! Help does arrive for those who need it more than anyone. Sif had said that. Aitri surely needed help right now. Right now, the monster was calmly taking hits, but just wouldn't die. But for how long? Sooner or later, he was to lose his patience. And if he attacked, given his invulnerability around water, how long would they last? Aitri closed her eyes, and prayed to Njord, "Dear lord of the seas and the winds, please hear my prayer. We really need your help."
For a minute, nothing happened. While Rick summoned another of his rune to summon a sword, and attack, suddenly everything went quiet. Literally nothing moved, as if, there was not even a sound of water inside it.
Then, out of the water, rose a figure, about the size half of Burj Khalifa. And interestingly, he was above water only up to his waist. He had greyish skin, like Berg had been described to have by Rishi. His hair was completely white, and he had long beard, which was also white. His eyes were as blue as the deepest of seas, and they had a very restless look in them, unlike Njord's eyes, which were much calmer. His limbs even contained scales, and he looked very scary, to be honest.
As if that was not enough, from the other side, rose another person, this time, a woman, with normal skin, and normal long black hair. Her facial features were mischievous, her eyes stunningly grey. She was really beautiful, but there was something about her that told Aitri that she would have been a bad person to have as an enemy. She wore a white long dress which was weirdly not wet. Funny stuff, that neither of these two were actually wet, despite having risen from the sea itself. The woman was as big as the man, and she was only visible until her waist. And for the first time, the fossegrim's face had lost it's colour.
"Hello!" The woman said, "Dear?"
"Uh, yeah." The man said, "Hello! We heard your call. Normally, it isn't the job of the god and goddess of the sea to save mortals, but you two really got stuck with this one." The man pointed at the fossegrim, "So we had to intervene. Otherwise, I would have sent one of our daughters."
"Excuse me, who are you?" Rick asked, tilting his head with a certain innocence.
"I'm Aegir, the giant god of the sea."
"Yeah," Rick looked at the god from up to down, "No kidding."
"And that," Aegir crossed his eyes, "is my wife, Ran."
"I'm the goddess of nets." Ran brought her hand out, and inside was a very dirty net, with so many cans, plants, plastics, dead fish, and more stuff that Aitri couldn't possibly figure out. "Who among you is the water champion?" Aegir asked. Aitri raised her hand. "Good, a girl for a change. We rarely have girl divine champions. How empowering!" Ran raised her fist in air.
"Dude," Aegir finally shifted his attention towards the monster, "We took ages to introduce ourselves. Why didn't you run away? Well," he gasped, "since you didn't..." He raised his hand, and struck the boat, breaking it into pieces. Aitri got flailed in air, but landed on something other than water. It was Aegir's palm. Rick had also landed on it. "Ran?"
"Pleasure." Ran threw her net around the fossegrim, and started strangling the monster. He was silent, and he didn't make a sound, or perhaps, he couldn't. Aegir swam through the water, and nicely landed him in the lands of Samar Dwip. "Call us again if you need us. We love the divine champions."
