Chapter 13

"Best not to dwell on it. Nobody's gonna be sad he didn't come back... Except maybe Daryl."
"Daryl?"
"His brother."
"At least somebody's having a good day." Morales spoke as Glenn flies by in the red sports car.

In the back of the box truck atlas holds the pressure on Paxton's open side wound. "You are gonna be just fine baby. Should take no time to patch you up"

Clutching his side in pain Paxton moans out, "Good cause this is starting to hurt like a bitch."

"Someone said you all have supplies at your camp,"Atlas asks looking up to the group once he gets Paxton putting the right amount of pressure to the ripped stitches.

The blonde who the newcomers learned was Andrea speaks, "Yeah, just basic first aid supplies. Feel free to use what you need when we get there."

"Thanks."

"Come meet everybody."

From inside the truck the Grimes's and Blake family can hear morales shout, "Hey, helicopter guys! Come say hello."

"Go on dad,"Paxton speaks up when Rick looks back, "I'll be right here."

At Ricks hesitation, "I'll keep him stabilized. Can you get their first aid stuff for me?"

"Yeah. I'll be right back." With that Rick gets out of the truck and starts to walk towards the others.

Rick looks up after gathering his thoughts only to see his best friend, his wife and his youngest son, "Oh my god."
Carl screams out to he's long-believed dead father, "Dad! Dad!"
Rick can't help but think 'I've finally got my family back," Carl is in his arms, "Carl. Oh! Carl." Standing he extends the hug to his wife.

After letting go of the hug Rick steps back, "The supplies, Paxton's hurt."

"Pax is here!" Carl takes off towards the box truck not waiting for an answer.
Lori takes off after him "Carl!"

The rest of the camp kicks in after hearing someone was hurt.
Shane hugs Rick after he tells a man named Dale to bring the first aid kit to the truck. Shane and Rick make there way back over.

Atlas and Paxton are waiting in the pull up doors to the truck when they hear a young voice shouting, "Paxton!"
Looking up curiously Pax tries to get up only to be stopped by Atlas and his little brother coming around the side of the truck followed by his step-mother.

Fighting off Atlas' help Pax jumps down not believing that his little brother is in front of him. "Bubba!" Carl jumps in his brother's arms much like he did his father's. Atlas figures it's no use trying to interject to stop the bleeding,so he turns his attention to the lady standing in shock coming to the conclusion that this is Lori.

Soon enough Atlas has patched up Paxton's side and they've both thanked the man, Dale, who let them borrow it and the spare tent he had. By the time Atlas got the tent up denying any help from Paxton it was dark out and the fires had been restocked so they made their way over to the rest of the group.

"Disoriented. I guess that comes closest. Disoriented. Fear, confusion... all those things but... Disoriented comes closest."Rick pauses giving time for his son and savior to sit down. Atlas sits beside Carl who is tucked under Ricks arm while Paxton chooses to sit between his boyfriend's legs, Rick smiles in their direction and continues,."I felt like I'd been ripped out of my life and put somewhere else. For a while I thought I was trapped in some coma dream, something I might not wake up from ever."
Carl can't help but interrupt, "Mom said you and Paxton died."
"She had every reason to believe that. Don't you ever doubt it."
Lori struggles to speak but eventually does, "When things started to get really bad, they told me at the hospital that they were gonna medevac you and the other patients to Atlanta, and it never happened."
"Well, I'm not surprised after Atlanta fell. And from the look of that hospital, it got overrun.I'm surprised Pax and Atlas was able to keep it safe long enough for me to wake up."
"Yeah, looks don't deceive. I barely got them out, you know?" Atlas is starting to get annoyed at Shane, the man is acting like nothing happened. The only reason he hasn't punched him in the face is sitting in his lap.
"I can't tell you how grateful I am to you, Shane. I can't begin to express it."
