Chapter 11

Moods were down in the household. It had been a month since chaos struck the earth. Most broadcast had stopped which meant no one was alive to keep them going. Hope for help was quickly diminishing.

The group of four had grown closer in the past days but they each had a part in them that wanted everything to go back to normal.

Paxton wanted his dad to be okay and to be able to find Carl. He wanted his family back but he was glad he had Atlas. Paxton knew he wouldn't be able to let Atlas go even if the world got fixed. He didn't want to let him go.

Atlas couldn't help but hope his remaining family was okay. He couldn't get a hold of them when the blockades were going up. He hoped they were all still alive but having no sure way of knowing was taking a toll on him, even if he didn't let it show. He wanted to hug his mom and sister again. He wanted to tackle his brother like he did when he was younger. He wanted to introduce Paxton to his mom.

Morgan was concerned with keeping his son safe. He was losing hope of help coming so he was trying to think of a way to get Duane to protect himself. He wanted to show Duane how to get stronger but he didn't want his son's childhood innocence to be tainted by the darkness of the new world.

Duane, he just really missed his mom. Even though he was young he understood that she was dead. He knew she was dead even though her corpse was walking the streets of Kings County Georgia.

The group was at breakfast coming up with plans when Morgan brought up the suggestion. "I've been thinking," the statement caught the attention of everyone around the table, "Its been a month and help hasn't came. I want Duane to know how to protect himself incase walkers get into the house or if something happens to me."

"Does that mean I can go on the run with ya'll today?" Duane was clearly excited.

Morgan looked over to Atlas to see if the other man was okay with, "It's fine with me if you're okay with it."

Paxton noticed the excitement on Duane's face and couldn't help but smile and be happy for him. Sure he wasn't sure if staying by himself was good idea but he still needed to rest. His foot and side were feeling better since he had been resting and taking medicine they had stocked from the hospital . Hopefully within the next few days he would have better mobility. When Atlas wasn't there to help he was still using the crutches as a precaution .

Morgan and Duane had went to get ready for the run while Atlas and Paxton volunteered to clean up.

"You know I could stay back with you today, if you want?" Paxton looked up from drying the dishes.

"I would like that but they need you out there more. I'll be fine on my own." Paxton continued when he saw the disbelieving look on Atlas' face, "Seriously babe i'll be fine. I"ll just probably go upstairs keep watch from the windows plus I have Shadow to keep me company."

"Are you sure? I don't mind staying back. You also need to sit down and not over do it." Atlas was running every scenario he could think of and they were all negative. 'What if Pax got hurt and he couldn't defend himself?'

Pax reached over and pecked Atlas, "Go get ready, I'm going to sit down, just let me finish."

Atlas gave in, "Before we leave I need to check your stitches and foot."
