Chapter 6

On the 13th day the boys decide to block more of the exits. Since the discovery of not having to be bit to turn, they were more weary about walkers getting in and out of the building. Once Atlas had checked on Rick and Paxton and him had ate their breakfast, they set off to the first floor along with Shadow. "Do you think walkers would have gotten in last night?" The question comes from the younger of the two men and earns a curious sideways glance from the older.

"I don't think so, but we should double check just in case. You can't be too careful now and days." Each of the two men had a gun and knife on them. The guns were incase they ran into a big group of walkers. They had quickly learned that the walkers followed any sound, so they talked quietly and agreed to not use the guns unless absolutely necessary.

After walking a lap around the 1st floor and taking out a handful of walkers, they had blocked two of the entrances that they deemed useless. The boys worked to block the exits with chairs and tables that had been in the waiting rooms. Atlas and Paxton had left an exit facing the North and one facing the South open. Atlas had parked by the North entrance, in case they needed to make a quick get-a-way. Paxton was walking Shadow around a grassy spot before going back in.

Once the car was moved and they were back inside, "Do you feel like we're being watched?" Paxton didn't know if he was being paranoid or what but he felt like he was in the start of a bad horror movie.

"Hey, its okay Pax, we'll check around and make sure no one else is here." About that time Shadow perked his ears up, "What is it boy?" Atlas tried to get the dogs attention but it was too late.

Shadow took off running around the corner, barking loudly. "Shadow! Come back boy. Shadow" Paxton had tried to call the dog back to them but it was of no use. He was already down the hall and running around the first floor.

Paxton took off racing after Shadow and Atlas after him. When they boys find Shadow he is barking at closed pharmacy door. "Paxton you can't just run off like that." Atlas tries to explain but is interupted by hushed whispers coming from behind to closed door."Paxton are you okay?" Atlas is worried for the boy standing there frozen.

"Someone is in there Attie." Atlas managed to get Shadow to stop barking and is now standing beside the scared boy.

"Who ever is in there come out!" Atlas orders the unknown inturders, The boys can see a tall figure standing up behind the fogged glass, hands raised beside their head.

A shaky, "we don't want any trouble." is shouted through the door. Atlas has his gun raised as a pre-caution at the point.

"Just come on out. We don't want any trouble either."

After a moments the door starts to be pushed open and an older man starts walking out. "You said 'we'. Who's with you?" Atlas is back to questioning the man.

"My son," At this Atlas lowers the gun but keeps a hand on it, "Come on out Duane." Out from behind him steps a young boy no more than 13. "My name is Morgan Jones, this is my son Duane. Who are you?"

"I'm Atlas, this is my friend Paxton and his dog Shadow."

After a moment of silence Morgan holds his hand out and Atlas accepts, walking closer to shake it Paxton following pursuit, "Its good to meet some other people" Paxton speaks up for the first time deciding these weren't bad people- just a father and young son, "Sorry if Shadow scared you, he can be agressive to strangers."

Duane speaks up before his father has a chance, "Can I pet him?"- a typical kid question that makes both Atlas and Paxton smile.

"If its okay with your dad," Paxton sends a questioning look to Morgan, who nods and says a quite 'go ahead son', "Shadow is a big softie he won't bite."
