Chapter 7: Chest Box

This is your third morning in the infirmary. For the previous days, Heat or Wire would visit you and Mohawk to deliver food and have a small talk. Whenever they have something to do, other members of the crew would deliver food and ask how you are.

In the past two days, you were worried about two things. First, Kid never visited you. Wire said he has been in a bad mood since that night. You had no reason to visit his room for the bathroom bath because the doctor advised you to clean your body with cloth and warm water so your wounds can heal faster.

Second, Killer didn't also visit the infirmary. Well, it's not that it is his obligation but it makes you feel like he doesn't care about you even as a friend.

You moved your curtain so you can see Mohawk on the other infirmary bed like you always do. He is three beds away from you. He had a lot of bandages on his body due to the cuts and broken bones. It's so relieving to see him looking better than before.

He filled you with things that he knew about Kid and about their adventure together that you didn't know. He also mentioned that he left his younger sister in their hometown to join Kid Pirates. He sure missed his sister too that he treats you like one. He said when the time comes that the captain accomplishes his goal, he will come find his sister again.

"The doctor said we can go out after our check-up." You said as you sat on the side of your bed, facing him. He also did the same and tried to stretch his arms and tilt his head in any direction.

"Well, I'm glad. I hope the captain is in a good mood today. Need to say sorry though." He said. Speaking of Kid, you are not even sure if he wants to talk to you. Almost all of the crew told you the same story that he is really scary when he is being disrespected.

The door opened softly. You glanced to your shoulders and saw the doctor coming in. You greeted him as he did the same.

The doctor inspected you first. He removed the bandages that covered your forehead and two hands, revealing the cut marks and some fading bruises. There was also a large bruise on your leg that you got from the fight. He handed you some ointment for you to apply on it to heal faster and you can take a bath afterwards. It's a weird ointment but that's how it works.

He went to Mohawk to do the same while you stood on your feet and tried to stretch your body. There is no more pain and you can move nicely. You started to jump lightly to test your leg and feet and it feels great again.

The doctor removed all of his bandages. When you approached them, you saw Mohawk's cuts and bruises. He noticed you looking at it with a sad face, which made him giggle a little bit.

"Well, you know the captain when he is mad." Mohawk's smile doesn't seem to hold a grudge.

"Oh, it was my fault." You said sadly.

"Pfft, don't be such a baby." Mohawk scoffed.

"Don't blame yourself, we are all under the captain. His words are absolute." The doctor said. You sighed and sat on the other bed, facing them.

"Captain was just worried about you, I know how he feels. And I failed my task so it's just right to pay for it. If I was him, I'd be mad too if my sister was put to danger." Mohawk said, like he knew and had accepted the consequences. But your conscience couldn't take such a thing, you found it irrational to give a beating punishment just because they failed to protect you. It is irrational for you because you are used to protecting someone not the other way around.

After the doctor was done with removing his bandages he gave you the similar small container of the ointment.

"If you feel sorry for him, put some ointment in his back while I go get some warm water to clean his cuts, he needs a last bandage on his left arm." The doctor smiled. You took the ointment and went behind Mohawk as the doctor went on his way. Mohawk's back has no cuts but there are lots of bruises. His leather jacket must've been a good help to prevent such cuts when he crashed to the ground and to the food stall in the city.
