When Farmer finally came back to her senses, she abruptly pulled back and all the way to her side of the truck. She officially had lost her mind; she was sure of it. Running a hand through her hair, she chanced a peek over at Brynn, but was surprised to see her smiling back at her. Now she was just confused. She couldn't seem to bring herself to speak so she just sat there smiling back at Brynn like a dumbass.

"Was that to shut me up or was that a genuine kiss?" Brynn asked, deepening her smile at Farmer.

Farmer cleared her suddenly dry throat, shifting uncomfortably but the squirming alerted her to her crotch; she was a little aroused. The last time she was aroused for another real live human being was back in high school. Every other time in her life had been on those really lonely nights where she sought out relief through reading lesbian erotica. Farmer wanted to be honest with Brynn, but the fear of scaring her off had her stalling.

"Farmer?"

She took a deep breath and blew it out. "Both." She waited for a response, but Brynn simply just stared at her, so she continued. "I didn't... don't want you to leave. I want you to stay." Her heart warmed at the sight of Brynn's smile. "And I truly wanted to kiss you. I've wanted to kiss you since the barn." Farmer turned in her seat and stretched out an arm along the back of the seats. "Brynn, I know, believe me, I know how crazy this all seems given we just met this afternoon, and I know that you're scared and confused about everything, but I'm inviting you to stay here at the farm with me and we can figure stuff out together." She lowered her arm and grasped Brynn's hand, giving it a squeeze. "It's up to you, though. If you want to still check out shelters, or if you want to sneak back to your, or his house to get your things, I'll help you. Whatever you want."

Brynn sighed heavily through her giddy smile then shook her head. "Wow, Farmer, I don't know if it's my trauma, bipolar, lack of sleep, or what, but... and the feminists will probably roll their eyes at me for saying this, but I think you're my hero."

"Well, if it's any consolation to you or the feminists, I don't consider you a damsel in distress. I think you're strong, because if you weren't, you wouldn't have survived him or that escape of yours." Farmer reached up and toyed with some of Brynn's hair. "Can I ask a personal question?"

"Of course."

"Are you bisexual?"

"What makes you think that?" Brynn asked as she took Farmer's hand from her hair and entwined their fingers together.

"Well, you fell for him, but you didn't seem repulsed when I kissed you, so..."

"Ah. I don't know, really. I've only ever been with guys." She bit her lip as she stared into Farmer's eyes. She shrugged a shoulder and said, "I think you're cute. Like, insanely cute. Cute to the point that you distract me." Brynn giggled at Farmer's incredulous expression. "What, you've never had a girl tell you that you're cute?"

Farmer felt like that eighteen-year-old all over again. "Just one, many, many years ago." She suddenly realized they were sitting in the dark. "Should we go inside?"

"It's a good idea." Brynn started to open her door when Farmer told her to wait.

Farmer hopped out then quickly made it to Brynn's side. She opened the door and held out a hand to her. "I'm not risking you falling again." Farmer watched Brynn take a step down on the running board and instead of hopping down, Farmer found herself with her arms full of Brynn pressed against her. "Whoa, easy." Then she realized Brynn was hugging her, and she tightened her arms around her, hugging back. She had to refrain from smelling her hair and running her hands down to her backside. "Everything okay?" she asked with her nose pressed to Brynn's hair, not sniffing.
