chapter 5

I woke up by a buzzer that the president is prodcasting live and my family ran down the stairs fast. I sat up really quickly so they could sit and look at the thing. " This your president the reaping is in 2 weeks and we are getting prepared to send kids in the arena to fight to the death. I want you to know the soldiers that we sent home their names will be in the bowl and we will be playing equally at the reaping. Have a great rest of  your night."   The podcast ended very quickly and I was in shock at what he said. My family looked at me and I didn't know how to respond to them so I got up and went to my bedroom. I ran up the stairs and grabbed my bow and my arrows and headed out the door. But my sister grabbed my arm and I turned around with tears coming down my face and I let go of her grasp and ran out of the door.  I never get a break and now I got to protect my family but protect my sister more because I don't want her to die so if she gets picked I will take her place. 

When I jumped the fence to go to the woods I saw my best friend jay and he was waiting for me and I ran up to him and hugged him tightly. "Jen it's ok." I looked at him and shook my head no because now I have to protect my sister from not dying or getting picked. We walked into the woods and went hunting like old times but the guards doesn't care about this fence at all. " Jay, did you see the message from the president this morning?" He didn't say anything but I bet he say the message and he came out here and waited for me. But I don't if he saw ut because he won't say anything. "Jen I saw it  and I'm scared that you're going to get picked again and I can't say goodbye to you again and watch you fight to the death and kill innocent people." I stopped in my tracks looked at him. He turned his body to me and looked at me and I saw tears coming down his face. I never saw him cry at all. I went closer and hugged him for a minute and I let go and kept walking.  I stopped and got an arrow ready to get some food for the poor.

 I saw a flashlight and some guards coming towards us. "Jay climb the tree now and be silent." He climbs the tree really fast and I went and hid in a little cave that is hidden. I put the bow by my feet so the guards don't see the tip of it. I heard them talking about the games but couldn't really understand them at all. They passed jay and I and I waited for a few minutes until I got out and I saw jay.  "That's new." Jay looked at me when he said that and I was kinda confused why they are in the woods. I don't know what to say at all.  "Lets go and get the foods and get the hell out of here jay before we get caught." We walked in the other direction see we can hunt and get out as fast as possible. We didn't say anything as we hunted because we didn't wanna scare the animals. I was kinda calming down since the president announced the message but i was scared that my sister is going to get picked and i cant afford to lose her because how young she it. "Are you scared that you brother is going to get pick?" He didn't say anything but i know he will say something. "Im not scared but I'm just worried about them?" I understand where he ic coming from becuasde we both have siblings to protect at the same time. 

We were heading back home when the sun was starting to come up and its so pretty when it rises in this district. We were taking our time to go the market to give the food to them and i his some food in my bag for my family and jays family so we wouldn't get bused by the guards. We saw a bunch of them getting off the train. Now we gotta get used to guards here full time now. I saw kids hiding behind their parents and they looked at me with a hopeless look and i knew i couldn't anything about and i felt guilty about the whole situation. I knew it will be my fault if we don't do something about this. "Jay we gotta do something because the kids are scared now." He looked at me like i was insane but he understood where i was coming from and he took me somewhere private so the guards doesnt see us talking about the whole situation. "Jen we don't have enough power to do that we have to let the kids be scared and afirad of their lives. Thats what the president wants."  I wanted the kids to be happy and free and enjoy their own childhood just like i did but that's never going to happen. Now thesekids have watch innocent kids get murdered by other kids.

We kept on walking to the market to give the food to the people so they can cook it.  We saw guards looking at everyone station and i felt uncomfortable walking in the market with a  bunch of guards with guns ready to shoot people. I looked at jay and and looked ta me at the same time. We had no words to say to each other and we walked to the tables that we give the animals too. "Hey G, whats going on here?" She gave me a concern look and was afraid to speak and say whats going on right now. I wasn't going to force her to say anything. "The armed people are looking around and making usrewe don't have weapons." Jay and i looked at each other like we are going to get shot. We turned around and guards were looking at each spot of the market and two o them were walking towards us. "Shit." I said turned to G and i said that towards G and i was scared of my life and i didn't know what to think at all. "Sir we would like to see you outside without your stuff." Jay was concerned that they were going to kill him and all the vaurds went outside because I'm pretty sure they were done looking. "So here is the food that got this morning for you to cook  for everyone." She was so grateful. i looked down and saw this pin with a blue jay but the pin was black. "How much is this G?" She picked one up and and looked at me like u didn't have to pay for it. "Keep it"
