let the hunt begin

As much as they hated it, they had to go late in the evening, considering the time they got back from their classes.

They gathered in the living room, dressed warmly as it was rather chilly, with flashlights in their hand. Marie and Aaliyah discussed the plan to ensure everyone's safety.

Ears listening closely but her eyes kept wandering out the window, catching glimpses of the sky getting darker.

"Well, we better hurry up cause it's getting darker. Even though we have flashlights, I'd like to return home with there being even a little bit of light." Akeira said, her fear of the dark getting to her.

Agreeing with her, the seven girls head out the back door and entered the giant garden of tall trees. Sticking close together, they moved as one, checking all the traps they set.

The occasional sound of twigs snapping, caused their hearts to skip a few beats. Their hearts thumping harder each time they met an empty bear trap. Till they came up to one, a round of gasps sounded.

Aaliyah, being the braver one, stepped forward to it, observing the contraption. Something was caught in it and it definitely was not a ligament that belonged to a deer, or maybe any normal animal. The girl shone the light on the contraption, making her jump back at what she saw.

The chewed off leg, stuck between the teeth of the trap, releasing an unpleasant smell, stinging the girl's nose. Pulling the neck of her jersey over her nose to filter the smell, she calls her friends over.

"Y'all come look at this." she said.

Coming closer to see what they had caught, looks of disgust reflected on the girls faces at what they had seen. Their stomach churning once they were hit with the pungent smell.

"Still think it's a deer?" Zada said turning to Marie, her brow arched, remembering her statement from yesterday.

"What animal leg is that?" asked Tonique, getting closer to the trap.

Hand over her mouth and nose to help suppress her urge to vomit. Akeira avoided any eye contact with the thing, standing alert and paying close attention to her and her friends surroundings.

A low growl resonated, making the girl freeze. Her eyes widening, searching for the source of the sound. Another one, closer this time.

Her heart rate picking up speed, eyes wildly looking at her surroundings.

"Did y'all not hear that?" the girl asked, slightly panicked. Her friends turning to her alerted.

"What did you hear?" asked Tricia.

Another growl, closer than before.

"That." she answered.

Before any of them had time to react, a loud growl vibrated through the air, shaking the trees and the ground beneath their feet.

Out from the dark, lunged a large figure, targeting Aaliyah. Gripping tightly around the girl's head, biting it off cleanly.

Different pitches of screams filled the air as the girls watched their friend get decapitated.

A fountain of blood spurted from the girl's neck, where her hard was before, spraying the liquid on the girls closest to her.

Her body hit the cold, wet floor with a thud. Their body moving faster than their mind had the girls scatter like ants. Letting their legs take them in whatever direction.

It stood there in the dark, watching it's prey get away. But it very much would enjoy this game of hide and seek.
