traps in the forest

•··············•·············•

"Y'all know how to put down bear traps?" asked Marie.

Her friends looked at her confused as to why she suddenly brought up bear traps.

"We can put traps in the forest to capture it, ya know. And then we can kill the deer ourselves." she explained.

Their brows furrowed at her suggestion. Uneasiness settling in their stomach.

"Or how about we move? Like move to another ho-"

"With what money? We all saved up money so we could all move in together, in a different country too." Chanté said cutting Zada off.

Sure it was a reasonable idea, but they didn't know if their eyes were just playing tricks on them. Maybe it was just a weird breed of deer.

With a sigh leaving her lips, she turned back to Marie.

"Fine. Let's really just hope that that thing is just some kind of deer."

"So what are we doing? Just setting them down in there?" queried Tonique.

"We'll go buy some and set them down at the start of the forest and a little deeper." Marie answered.

Agreeing with their friend's little plan to ease their uncertainty and fear, they dispersed.

Gathering in the back yard with the materials in hand, the girls shared a look before starting their master plan. Once done, they head back into the comfort of their warm home, unaware of the crimson eyes watching from afar.

Soon the beautiful sky of light blue and white fluffy pillows, were taken over by a deep, dark shade of blue and pretty little lights twinkling. The gentle wind, elegantly graced through the bushes and branches of the trees, making them dance. The fireflies decorating the lovely creations of nature with their beautiful green glow that flickered.

She laid on the grass, a blanket beneath her, blocking her from the cold slightly wet grass. Brown eyes to the sky, watching the pretty twinkling stars.

Her heart skips a beat when she heard her name being called out and the door opening, breaking her out of her dazed state.

"Akeira?" Aaliyah called out.

"Yeah?" she answered.

"What you doing outside here, and by yourself?" the girl asked.

"Just watching the stars." she responded, hearing the soft footsteps of her friend before slowly seeing her appear above her looking down at her, then looking up at the sky. She then sat down next to her, her gaze wandering off to the chair facing them on their left.

"It's pretty out here." she said. Akeira hummed, agreeing with her.

"It's always nice just to get some fresh air and watch the stars and relax." Akeira continued.

"What do you think it is? The thing we saw." Aaliyah asked, laying down, eyes to the sky.

"I don't know. Maybe some jumbie, like a Largahoo." she responded, making her friend snort.

"I don't think they have those things here." Aaliyah said, thinking about the Caribbean folklore character her friend mentioned.

"You could never know. Or maybe it could be a Wendigo." she said, whispering the last word looking at her friend.
