"This isn't quite the way I thought we'd be spending Christmas morning," You breathed out, patiently waiting for the timer to sound off. You were settled on the bathroom floor with Tom beside you, your body curled against his side. He kept his arm wrapped tightly around you, his lips pressing to your temple.
He chuckled, licking his lips. "What better way to spend it though?" He looked down at you. Tucking his finger underneath your chin, he tilted your head upwards so his lips could brush across yours. "We've both suspected this for a few weeks, Love."
You sighed, nodding your head as you tangled your arms around him.
It started off as drowsiness which then resorted to nausea and ultimately, you were throwing up. You could hardly find the will to stay upright while friends and family fixed dinner, nor could you even stand the scent of your perfume. Your stomach was turning flips and it was then you realized you were late.
Tom was the first to bring up the possibility of you being pregnant even before you figured out you missed your period. While he was claiming pregnancy, you pushed it off as a virus that just needed to run its course. However, the allotted time had passed. You should've been better.
When Tom heard you wake up this morning and hung over the basin, he pushed himself out of bed. Although he wasn't fond of beginning Christmas morning with you not feeling well, he couldn't help but smile as decided it was now or never.
You always kept pregnancy tests on hand, just for reasons such as this. He quickly opened the cabinet while you were brushing your teeth and pulled the fresh box out. Quickly opening the packaging, you stared at him oddly.
"Merry Christmas, let's find out if you're pregnant." He laughed, pulling a test out and handing it to you.
"Tom," You whispered, gazing up at him.
He came up behind you and kissed your shoulders, rubbing your back soothingly. "We need to know, baby. Please?"
Sighing, you took the test from him. Kissing your cheek, he gave you some privacy as you finished your business. Once you were ready, you slowly opened the door and called him in there as you set the timer on your phone.
Now, this is where you two currently sit.
"What if we are pregnant?" You asked. "We've only been married for four months."
Tom laughed, his head falling back to rest against the door. "That's what you're worried about? That we haven't been married long enough? Darling, altogether, we've been a couple for four years. I believe that's enough time." He expressed, rubbing your arm.
You giggled, shaking your head.
"So you would be really excited?" You bit down on your lip.
Tom turned around so he could face you. Grasping the sides of your face, he gazed deeply into your eyes, searching. "Darling, it would be the best Christmas gift you could ever give me... A beautiful baby who is half of you and me? Yes, please." He smirked, kissing your lips tenderly. Laughing, you held onto his wrists.
"I guess it just freaks me out, you know? Getting pregnant and all." You sighed.
Tom nodded, holding you closer. "I'll be there every step of the way, you know that. It's you and me, baby girl."
As he kissed your forehead, the timer went off. Sighing, you sank your teeth into your bottom lip and pushed yourself to your feet. Tom stood up next but remained at your backside. You slowly picked up the test and your eyes widened at the sight.
Positive.
Your hand came to rest over your mouth, the tears starting to well in your eyes.
"Well?" Tom asked.
Slowly, you turned around to face him.
"Merry Christmas, you're going to be a dad." You breathed out, turning the test around. Tom's blue orbs flickered to the stick, his eyes widening.
"Darling!" He exclaimed, rushing forward to grab you. The smile stretched out across your face as you wrapped your arms around his neck, your tears running freely down your cheeks. You clutched your hand around his shirt, your happy sobs erupting.
When the two of you pulled away, Tom's eyes were glossy with tears.
"We're having a baby," He whispered, his forehead pressing against yours.
"We're having a baby!" You repeated with a slight squeal.
Tom started laughing, wrapping his hand around your cheek as he pulled you in close for another searing kiss. Smiling against his lips, both of you were shaking.
This was by far the best Christmas gift either of you could have ever received.
