Halcyon

Idyllically calm and peaceful.

Victor

I bought a fiction novel, one that i haven't read yet and a piano sheet music of winter by Vivaldi. That kota was carrying.

"We are waiting for a friend of ours." Kota said as he typed something into his phone. I nodded at him.

"Hey guys!" I heard a voice call out. There was something striking in the voice though. Smooth. The baritone was like a familiar singer but I couldn’t remember the name.

We turned to our right to see a guy in a crisp white long-sleeved shirt, the top button undone to reveal the start of his collarbone. He wore neat black slacks. His near formal attire surprised me, but he appeared comfortable in what he was wearing, like he wore it nearly every day.

At his neck hung a silver chain with a round silver medallion with some symbol I didn’t recognize. His face was angular. His hips were slimmer than Kota’s and his fingers were long and lean.

He looked like he was the same age we were. His hair was a softer brown, reaching to the nape of his neck in gentle waves, brushed back away from his eyes.

The most awesome feature was his brown eyes - fire eyes and it was the first time I’d thought the term “fire in his eyes” ever actually fit a face.

He stopped a few feets away from us. He took look at me and then at the other. I stood there awkwardly not knowing what to do.

After a second of their eye conversation. The new guy turned to me, holding his hands out as he said, "I'm Victor Morgan."

He said his name like he expected me to know him, I took his hands and said, "Athena Sky. Nice to meet you"

Victor blinked at me for a second and looked at the guys then back to me. "We taught we could get something to eat." Kota said.

"Sure. So what did you guys buy?" Victor asked as we started to walk towards the food court.

"The book i was searching wasn't there, but Athena bought some books." Kota said.

"You like reading?" Victor asked.

"Of course, who doesn't." I asked. Kota started to laugh at my reply. While the other two rolled their eyes.

While kota was laughing, Victor took the bag from his hands and opened it. He looked at the novel first then when he picked the music sheet. He stared at it for a second.

Victor looked up and there was this werid gleam in his eyes as he asked, "You play piano?"

"I do, but only the virtual one." I said, my face heating up.

He was still looking at me intensily, like he was trying to figure me out. "You know Vivaldi?" He asked.

I nodded,"I like Winter the best. I'm learning to play the four seasons."

After a moment of silence where I knew the others were listening to our conversation but was trying to be subtle about it. "Do you play piano?"

He blinked at me before nodding slowly. I smiled at him. After that we didn't talk much.

Occassionally people would pass us and i would have to lean into victor to give them the space. Victor, on occasion, bumped into me, and smiled when it happened. Something told me he was doing it on purpose.

When we reached the food court, the guys had a little discussion on where to eat and finally we picked the Hamburger place.

Victor got an Angus beef hamburger with Swiss and mushrooms, holding the condiments. Silas ordered three double cheeseburgers and a large fry. I mimicked Kota’s order, a chicken sandwich and medium fries.

I pulled my card out to pay and was about to swipe it when victor caught my hand, I flinched -for the fourth time today- at the sudden contact.

If the guys noticed it then they didn't tell anything about it. "I'll pay for it. It's my turn."

I opened my mouth to protest when when he swiped his card and said, "You can buy us lunch next time."

I was reluctant but the thought that they are willing to hang out with me again made give in. "Thank you." I said for the food. Victor blushed waving me off as if it was nothing.

Then kota and I then went to find a table when victor and Silas waited to collect the order. Kota picked the spot closer to the outer edge of the courtyard.

We were looking around waiting for the others when I felt a hand move across my shoulder blade. I flinched, moving away from that hand as i looked behind to the owner.

A guy with dark hair and was thin, had a goatee and looked about our age. He had a couple of friends lingering behind him. Their pants hung low on their hips and they all wore oversized sport t-shirts. The guy with the goatee gave me a look, tilted his head back and directed his chin at me.

"Hey girl." He said as he sat down on my left. I leaned away from him as the strong scent of menthol and smoke invaded my senses trying not to crinkle my nose.

"I'm Greg." He introduced and pulled the chair a little closer to me. That had me moving my chair in the opposite direction until I felt a warm hands on my back and the scent of spice suprisingly calming me down.

"What's your name, girl." He asked slurring his words that made it difficult to understand what he was saying.

My gut was screaming at me to run yet i remained where i was with kota. My ability can't help me now and that is why I had learnt self defenses and other moves.

"Athena." I said thankfully my voice didn't come out as a squeak. I didn't want to give him the happiness of seeing me being afraid.

"Well, i think we should go out. What's your number?" He asked. I blinked, slightly leaned into kota touch making sure he was still here.

"Come on Athena, let's go." Kota said as he stood up, holding a hand for me to take. Without a second thought, i quickly wrapped my hand in his and getting up.

"Who the fuck are you. Her lap dog?" He barked and a few of Greg's friend laughed.

I frowned as a slight blush stained Kota's cheeks. I did not like that he was picking on kota. "Mind your own business." I said, getting a little annoyed and angry.

Greg narrowed his eyes, "Shut it, bitch. If I-"

An ocean scent drifted to me before I heard Silas voice. "Is there a problem?"

Greg scowled as he took in Silas and stood up nearly tipping the chair back. He glared at Silas and Kota then turned me, "It's not over." With that he turned and walked away.

I barely held my frustration. I need to do a background check on him. And i added it to my to-do list.

"Are you okay?" I heard kota. I nodded. I wanted to scream as i was successfully getting to make some friends and then this Greg guy had to mess it up. Now they are not going to want me anywhere near them.
