I'll blame it on the weather. The fact that we were probably both tired and hungry. That's the reason he leaned in. It has to be the reason.
No matter how many oddball reasons my frazzled brain can come up with, I still can't bring myself to even look in Jungkook's direction. I'm assuming he's as flustered as I am, but who knows?
We follow the man on the donkey to the border between the Snow Kingdom and the Ocean Kingdom. The air has turned frigid, and somewhere between the cave and here, I gave Jungkook's jacket back to him.
Which I am now regretting.
The shop is quaint, a light coating of snow dusting the roof tiles, and smoke billowing out of a stone chimney.
We take refuge inside, the heat of the fire in the back warming our bones that were still damp from the rain.
Its not long after that we're both dressed in multiple layers of jackets, pants, and even snow boots.
"The young lady looks very cute in her outfit, ya?" The elderly man hums, his cheeks red with joy.
I'm wrapped in a white jacket, the fur of some animal surrounding the edges of the hood, making it hard for me to even see around my area. I can forget about wearing my large brimmed hat. There's not room for anything else on my body.
Jungkook has the matching jacket, except his is black. Our snow boots come up to our knees, making our walking stiff. He pays, however, and we're on our way to the Snowy Mountains.
The second we cross the border into the Snow Kingdom, the air cuts through the multiple layers, sending a chill down my spine. Its so damn cold here.
There's a light snow beginning to fall, not enough to blur our vision, but just enough to light up the space around us. Each falling flake catches the sunlight, making it look like glitter as it falls and lands in clumps.
Jungkook and I walk side by side, opting to leave the broom and Dante behind. My hand still holds the basket though, filled to the brim with potions, and now, ingredients. Our feet crunch on the pillowy snow, burying up to almost our ankles. My hand goes out to my side, catching the falling flakes.
It's something I've never seen before. It doesn't snow in the Forest Kingdom, so they only way I even know about snow is from books. And, wow, books don't do the beauty around us justice.
We come to a downward sloping hill, a frigid stream rushing its way through the winter scenery. Movement ahead catches my eye, and with excitement, I pull Jungkook behind a fallen tree to look at what I found.
"Look!" I whisper to him, pointing down towards the stream.
A white deer slowly creeps along, drinking water and nipping at the few flowers that have sprouted through the snow patches. It's a majestic buck, his horns larger than any I've seen back home in my woods.
They're decorated with green vines, hanging elegantly from each of the antlers. The low hanging vines move in the icy wind, him seeming not to care that his head is a home to foliage.
"Isn't it so pretty?" My mouth is open with awe, leaning further over the snow-covered log to get a better view.
"Yeah." He mumbles, and that's when I turn to see his eyes are once again locked on me.
Snowflakes dust his black hair, making him slowly begin to blend in with the white scenery. His cheeks are red, along with his ears. My eyes trail down to his lips, watching them steadily blow out a misty cloud of fog with each breath.
