TW: SELF HARM MENTION
~Tommy's POV~
"What happened?"
"You have to help him, please!"
"You have to calm down. I promise we'll help, he'll be okay."
"He just... fell over! Please, please help my son!"
"His hand, doctor. He's lost a lot of blood."
"Right. Someone get me a stretcher!"
I could hear them. Every word. I wasn't asleep, but I couldn't open my eyes or move. I felt like a doll, unable to control my own body. I willed myself to speak, to open my eyes, to do anything. Nothing. My body was unresponsive to my wishes, so I lay still.
My body was lifted on a stretcher and I was taken away. I began to focus on my left hand, attempting to move it. 'Come on...' I thought.
And then it moved. My pointer finger moved up, touching the cool metal along the sides of the stretcher.
"Doctor, his finger! It moved!" A nurse, I was guessing, exclaimed.
"His body must have just given out. Exhaustion, maybe?" The doctor muttered.
The wave of numbness finally released my body and I was able to open my eyes. I looked around, the bright fluorescent lights passing by me at what seemed to be lightning speeds.
"Hello?" I choked out, my voice raspy and gross.
"Hey there!" The nurse said, one hand on the metal bars of the stretcher. "How you doin'?"
She was oddly energetic for a nurse, but it made me feel comfortable. Her British accent was heavy and made me want to smile.
"Um, okay, I guess," I replied, my brain buzzing with anxiety. "What's going on?"
She grinned brightly at me. "You passed out! Well, not really. Hm. Did you? What happened to ya?"
Her tone and questions caught me off guard. What did happen?
"I-I don't know..." I stuttered, my voice growing soft.
"Eh, that's alright. Now, your name... Tommy, innit? Dude, that injury is pretty barmy! How'd it happen? Did you bleed a lot? Gorden Bennet! Is that glass?!"
I laughed at her accent and slang. I couldn't help it! I hadn't heard anyone other than my grandparents speak as she did. It made me feel at home.
"Hey, what're you laughing at!?" She demanded, yet smiled brighter.
"I tripped and fell into my mirror." I stated, going through the events in my head once more.
"Sounds like someone needs to clean their room." She chuckled.
I nodded. "Yeah... How long will this take?"
"What, got somewhere you need to be?"
"Well... No, just things I gotta do."
She hummed, nodding as if she knew. "Yeah, yeah, you teenagers and your secrecy. It doesn't look all that bad, just gonna remove the glass and bandage you up. Your lucky, y'know? Some people could've died from this."
"Mhm." I didn't wanna hear how "lucky" I was. In my mind, I missed an opportunity that could have fixed everything. Death, the easy solution. The way out.
