Oddly enough, the day blurs by because of my excitement. I don't think I've spilled anything after the short phone call.
When did I become such a teenage girl?
Before I know it, my shift is thankfully over and I'm in my car on the way to the park. I don't even understand this whole situation. I first talked to him over the phone. And the fact I'm about to go on a date over that is just crazy.
This is a date..... right?

I pull into the parking lot and get out when I realize that I'm still wearing my stain-covered waitress uniform. I hope he doesn't care.
I start walking around, looking for Jason when I see him reading on a park bench. I walk over and sit next to him.
"Hi," I say.
"Hey," he says.
"What are you reading?" I ask.
Jason closes his book. "Oh, just The Blood Of Olympus. It's the last book to one of my favorite book series," he responds.
"The Heroes of Olympus?" I say. "I love that series!"
"Really? No one seems to talk about these books since Divergent and The Fault In Our Stars."
"Oh, I know right! They need to give these books more credit, but not the movies. The movies were AWFUL."
We talk like this for a while, about books and movies.
"And just so you know, I'm not one of those players who skips from girl to girl," he tells me.
"Good to know." I don't want another tragedy like my last relationship. He was a player, but I stupidly ignored that and went with him to a party anyway. I don't drink, but he did and was hooking up with other girls before I could get a bottle of water. It's not like I cared about him. I was a stupid junior. I've been more focused on soccer this year.
A moment of silence passes between us. I can't really complain, though. We haven't ever talked or met at all. Is this how every one of our conversations will end up to? Awkward.
"So, Macy," he begins. "What do you want to do after college?"
"Well, I got a scholarship to a film school. I just like to do something creative like special effects and directing and writing."
"Wow that's really cool," Jason replies.
"So," I say. "What about you?"
"Well, I am going to Missouri state but I don't know what my major is yet."
(Btw, I forgot to mention this, but they live in St. Louis, Missouri)
"Well what are you into, in general?"
"Um, well, I like to help people and pets, so maybe a vet, but I also want to be an author. I just don't know what I'd write about."
"Same."
There's another small moment of silence.
I check my watch to see what time it is.
8:00.
"I probably need to start heading home..." I say.
"Yeah, me too," he says.
"Bye," I say.
"Bye," he responds.
I start to walk away when he says "Macy, wait!" I stop in my tracks and turn around so fast that my ponytail whacks my face.
He laughs. "I'll call you, ok?"
"Ok," I say.
I turn back around and head back to my car.

When I get back home, it takes me a minute to soak all that in. Was that too weird? Of course it was weird, but was it too awkward?
Of course it was! That's the first time I talked to him in person!
I sigh and go in the kitchen for popcorn. I put the bag in the microwave and prepare for when it's finished. Salt..... yup. Bowl...... got it.
Didn't really need to do the checklist.
I'm pouring the popcorn in the bowl when the front door opens and slams shut. The familiar scent of vodka drifts through the house. I stop pouring and take everything into my room before my mom can see me.
I shut the door, breathing heavily. I don't want to get caught up in that again. I think I'm in the clear when the door bursts open.
AN:
I hope that chapter was ok. I read so many books like this, it's just when it comes to writing on my own, I don't know what to put.
Please comment what you think.
