The rest of the car ride went by in silence, Bonnie
being clearly upset with Elena, but it was worse with Caroline. She seemed disappointed. Which felt way worse, at least to Caroline. So she got out of the car early and went for a walk by the town bridge. Was she really a horrible person? She thought, as her heels hit the cement with low clicks. Was she really a monster, everything like Damon had said. Maybe she was. Maybe she was all along, but she just tried to ignore it. Tried to hide it from everyone, especially herself.
She rested on the floor in the middle of the road, just looking at the sky. Her dad rather died than become a vampire. All because he didn't want to turn into what his daughter was.
A monster.
She knew it to be true. Even with all the convincing and changing she did, her mother still thought of her as a monster. Her father pretended, but he died still thinking her as a monster, wishing he could change her. Maybe he was right.
Caroline looked up at the stars in the sky. All of them were so tiny, but together they made a beautiful constellation. Together they were important, but separately, they weren't anything. Just flaming balls of hot sun. That's how Caroline felt now. Not like a flaming ball, but tiny. Insignificant. Like she didn't matter, and like she never would. Her life would never have meaning, because she wasn't human. She was a vampire. And life wasn't made for them.
"Fancy meeting you here." Caroline could recognize the voice of the person who slipped down next to her, but she still turned her head in curiosity. Met with a signature smirk and those same azure blue eyes, her suspicions were confirmed. "Damon." She sighed, looking back up at the sky. "Haven't you done enough damage for one night?"
"Damage?" he looked confused. "What are you talking about Blondie, you had fun tonight."
She huffed and sat up, shooting him a pointed look.
"That's not the point, it was wrong. It was irresponsible and wrong, and we shouldn't have done it. I was wrong to listen to you." She stands up and walks away, but Damon flashes to her in a millisecond, grabbing her wrist and turning her to face him. His eyes are mesmerizing, and against Caroline, and against everything in her body, she can't help but look into them."Doesn't it get tiring..." Damon breathes out, staring at Caroline intensely. "Having to keep it together, every second of every day?" His hand reaches up and tucks a stray hair behind her ear. "Don't you ever just want to..."
"Let go?" He asks, his eyes shifting to Caroline's lips, and staying there. Caroline is unsure of what to say, or what to do, but before she can think of either, she feels Damon's lips against hers, and is shocked yet again.
