2 WEEKS LATER...

Caroline's POV:

It's been two weeks since Damon and I had that little spat about our "kiss." Really, he kissed me, and I'm not quite sure why because we hate each other.

Yeah, we may both be pathetic single losers at the moment, still in love with our exes, but that doesn't mean we should just get together ourselves. And it doesn't mean I'm desperate enough to get together with Damon, of all people. I didn't forget the way he treated me in the past, and I let him know it!

It felt good to get all that off my chest. It's something that always really bothered me - his nonchalance about the whole thing. I'm a vampire now, but before then he just walked all over me and treated me like dirt. Compelled me, fed on me...even tried to kill me. Several times. For no reason at all.

But something is just so different about Damon in these past few weeks that I've seen him. He's always been one to lash out and do the wrong thing, usually the cause of a broken heart, but now...? His heart is broken, but he's calm. He's cool and collected, and trying to do the right thing. It's so different than he usually is. Part of me thinks I misjudged him, and the other part just thinks he's gonna snap at any moment. Either way, it is a curious thing.

"You've got a little." Stefan smiled at Elena, brushing his fingers lightly across his lips in a motion towards her.

"Where?" Elena asked, licking the blood off her lips.
"Is it gone?"

It was, but Stefan didn't say that. Instead, he leaned in close and pressed his lips against hers.

Caroline's heart sunk a little as she watched the happy couple, envious of them. Jealous of their perfect, loving relationship, while she had a deeply estranged one with her long distance hybrid boyfriend who wouldn't return any of her phone calls.

She sneaked a peek at Damon, noticing he was wearing the same pining look he always wore when looking at Elena, and she felt kind of bad. She loves both Stefan and Elena, even together, but did they really have to rub their relationship in everyone's face? Especially to newly single and hopelessly in love with you people??

"Where you going, Blondie?" Damon quipped as he noticed Caroline walk past him towards the front door.

"I don't think she needs my help anymore." Caroline nodded her head towards Elena & Stefan, who were eating each others faces off.

"Well..." Damon smirked.

Caroline shook her head, but Damon could hear her chuckle lowly as she walked out the door.

"Hmm, let's see...garlic crusted ravioli, pasta al linguine...ooh, they've even got bon-bons in the desert section! Bon-bons! Get it? Like you! Bon-bon..." Damon smirked at the witch from across the table, but she wore an unamused stare in return.

"Seriously?"

"Oh stop it, I'm funny." Damon tsked, his eyes floating back to the menu.

"Well you're paying, that's the only reason I agreed to have lunch."

"Of course!" Damon flagged down a waitress who came rushing over. "Ready to order?" She asked cheerily.

"You find me too sexy and insist that I shouldn't pay for this meal." Damon compelled with a smirk.

"Damon!" Bonnie protested. "You can't just-"

"This one's on the house today." The waitress smiled flirtatiously at Damon. "Why thank you, that's so sweet of you!" Damon smiled back as she grabbed their menus and headed to the kitchen.
