[SUMMER 2024]

- Y/N -

"OKAY, DO WE HAVE EVERYONE HERE?" Mr Harrington shouted, hastily going through and checking off the names on the list.

"--Seventeen, Eighteen, Nineteen and everyone."

The sounds of cars honking, luggage and carriers skidding across the grounds and the loud sounds of airplane takeoffs and landing surrounded us. Excitement chatters from sixteen and seventeen-year-olds filled the airport as we made it across to our gate. Going on a field trip around the states is exciting enough but a field trip around Europe is totally another picture.

Venice.

The City of Canals; our first destination out of the many.

"Are you excited, Y/N?" MJ spoke, slightly turning around, "Can you imagine that we're going to Europe together?"

"Yes, I'm excited!" I chuckled at my best friend as we were squishing our way through the tight airplane aisle. Every once in a while, I would apologize for bumping into a lady, or a kid...and now I just face-planted on a backpack.

The owner of the backpack jumped back in surprise, but once he saw who it was, his gaze softened.

"Oh, Peter!" I started bashfully, "I'm so sorry! I've been bumping into literally everyone for the last minute."

His eyes widened, "No -no, that's alright! Don't worry about it."

I smiled at him, "Thanks."

He gave a small smile back, and I glanced at Ned, his best friend - who gave him a weird look that seemed very familiar. The look your friends give you when something 'interesting' just happened to you.

Yeah.

"Okay now please hurry up." Betty, my other 'seat mate' called from behind, pushing me slightly to get the line moving forward. "Taking forever really, just to find our seats."

She was right. I do know the time you board the plane and the minute you get to your seat can take a little while but right now it was taking a hot minute. After a few minutes of slow waiting, we finally found our allocated seats. It was a three-seater, so MJ had already taken a seat near the far end and Betty took the middle seat, so I decided to take aisle one.

I could see that MJ had her headphones on, blasting music into her ears. I don't think it's permitted to wear headphones during takeoffs but I guess she will take them off when it's time.

Everyone had mostly placed their carry-ons in the overheads, so I decided to do the same. I reached and stood on my tippy toes to place my small carry-on into the overhead compartment - my five foot four height did not help at all.

"MJ, could you reach this please?" I asked, trying harder to place my suitcase into the compartment. "MJ?" I called again, trying to get her attention. I needed her help as she is clearly taller than me, however, it was hopeless as she was too absorbed with her music.

"Do you need help, Y/N?" Someone offered behind me.

I turned around and saw Ed Beck, who was a new student that came to our school a few months ago after the Blip had happened. Ed became relatively popular amongst our grade right off the bat due to his personality and looks. I've seen the way all the girls looked at him at school especially during Gym Class. Everyone seems to adore him a lot but no one really knows where he is from, or his backstory.
