THE COLLEGE RESULTS WERE COMING IN.

And I thought the worst thing that could happen is getting rejected by MIT but I didn't think about the rejections I would get from all five out of six backup schools.

I sighed, rejection after rejection. My parents were there to comfort me, by saying that it is just a backup school. But that is what scares me. I am aiming for a prestigious school like MIT but I am still getting all rejections from schools I considered as safeties?

I got my MIT letter today but haven't opened it. yet. I'm expecting disappointment but maybe there is a very very very small chance that MIT may have accepted Peter, Ned and I.

I had work this afternoon, so Peter and Ned decided to come over to open up our MIT letters at the same time.

We gathered around the table, as our hearts were beating faster and faster by the minute. I was nervous and scared. This was our dream and we will know whether or not it will come true in the next few minutes.

"Okay." I breathed out, I looked down at my letter, "Ready?"

Peter and Ned both mouthed okay and took a deep breath in and out.

"Okay–"

"Y/N," My boss, Dave, called out from the back kitchen, "I told you to put down the Halloween decorations."

"Actually, that was Sasha, so..."

"Enough attitude, just do it." He huffed and continued with what he was doing.

"On it," I replied, sighing.

Ned was taking deep breaths in and out, he was really nervous - just like the rest of us. "I feel like I'm going to puke."

"Well don't, because he will just make me clean it." I answered, "Okay, ready?"

"Yeah...This is our only shot, it's here or nowhere." Ned sighed.

"Hey, come on," Peter consoled, "Don't say that."

"Okay, let's open them in one, two, three..." And I ripped my letter open. Anticipation grew within all three of us as we opened up our letter.

I read through the first sentences and my stomach dropped.

Dear Miss Y/N L/N,

The MIT Admissions Committee has carefully reviewed your application. In light of the recent controversy, we regret to inform you that we are unable to consider your application at this time.

There was a moment of silence between us. No one dared to say the first word. I glanced towards Peter, who was already looking my way.

"No..." I whispered.

Peter shook his head, "No...You?" We looked at Ned, who then also gave the same response as both of us.

"This is so not fair." Peter mumbled, "I mean, this is so not fair. I didn't do anything wrong. And you guys definitely didn't do anything wrong."

"Expect disappointment, and you will never get disappointed." I breathed out, with a weak smile.

Suddenly a customer walked into the diner and started to dance - it was Flash. He wore an MIT hoodie and was celebrating.

We just looked at him in silence.

He looked at us weirdly, "You guys didn't get in?"

"Yeah." Ned replied, "Because we're actually friends with Spider-Man."

Flash gulped and was taken aback slightly, "Uh-yeah." He looked at his watch, "I better get going. There's a mixer for new admissions...And sorry guys."

"Y/N what are you doing?" Dave called out, "Get back to work."

"Yeah, coming." I stated, then I ripped my letter, "You know what? I wouldn't change a thing."

Ned agreed, "Me either." He also ripped his letter and threw it in the trash. Then he paused, "Although, I should show this letter to my parents."

Ned said his goodbyes to both of us and left the diner.

"I'm sorry Y/N." Peter spoke, "You didn't deserve any of this."

I started to put away the Halloween decorations, "Peter, it's fine - really. I never ever regretted once you are someone important in my life. I wouldn't change a thing, it's their loss."

Peter just gave a small smile then suddenly frowned while watching me take down the witch lights we had hanging around the diner.

"Hold on...I think I have an idea."
