"H-Harley!" Hunter shouted, waking up from his bed, tears streaming down from his eyes.
He was still in his clothes. He got up and quickly ran around the neighborhood, looking for her.
"Have you seen an auburn-haired girl? About the same age as me and looks like an angel?" He asked random neighbors and they shook their heads.
"HARLEY!" He shouted, running around.
Where is she?! Did she already leave?!
No! I need to search every inch of this neighborhood.
He then got an idea.
The shrine! She might be praying before she leaves!
He quickly ran as fast as he could to the shrine. Once he got there, he saw an auburn-haired figure. His eyes lit up.
"Harley!" He shouted.
"Hunter?" Harley asked, turning around.
"S-STAY THERE!" Hunter shouted, running to her.
"Why are we running?!" Harley asked, heading towards him.
Before they could reach each other, a struck of lightning hit both of them.
"Are you okay?!" Hunter winced.
Harley then without thinking, jumped towards him and gave him a long hug. A glow of lighting then hit her heart and she started backing away, coughing.
Don't tell me...
"Ouch!" She cried. "What's happening!?"
Hunter didn't answer and tried carrying her to the nearest hospital. In response, lighting struck both of them and Hunter fell.
"Hunter, what's wrong with my body?!" Harley screamed, pain in her heart.
"You'll be fine!" Hunter tried reassuring her, carrying her again. "I'll take you to the hospital. Just keep breathing."
"You are in pain! Put me down!" She winced, but Hunter continued.
"Don't worry, I have a high tolerance to pain," He mumbled.
"My body is burning up..." She weakly said. "I don't feel good."
"It's going to be alright," Hunter said, walking as fast as he could.
He then tripped on a rock and fell with Harley on him.
"Are you okay?!" He asked as Harley leaned on a pole, breathing heavily.
"What's going on?!" She shouted. "What's wrong with me, Hunter?!"
"You-"
"Am I dying...?" She weakly asked. "But, I'm perfectly healthy...!"
"Harley, don't say that,"
Her eyes started closing.
Will she actually take her away?! Hunter thought, looking at the pain in her eyes. I can't do anything! It's a goddess I'm fighting against!
She tried to say something that was barely audible.
"Shhh, keep your energy," He whispered softly.
"I-I'm so confused..." Harley stammered.
"Please don't talk!" He said and bent down. "Get on my back!"
"I don't think I can last much longer..." She whispered, sweat on her face.
"Don't say things like that..." He said, brushing her auburn hair away from her face.
She grabbed his hand. "Just in case." She smiled.
Now Hunter started breaking down.
Maybe this is my destiny... Harley thought. I have no soulmate, maybe I don't even belong here.
Her vision started blurring.
"I think this is happening for a reason, Hunter," Harley mumbled.
"Be quiet! I won't let you get taken away!" Hunter shouted.
"I don't have a soulmate, Hunter..." She revealed, smiling. "I'm not meant to be with you. I don't know what I'm meant to be."
"You will always have me, Harley," He said. "You can live without a soulmate."
"What a lonely life that would be," She murmured. "Seeing all my friends getting old with someone, while I have no one."
"Harley, we are nearly at the hospital, just get on my back!"
But Harley didn't budge from the pole.
"I'm trying to stay, I really am," She replied.
"It's going to be alright!" Hunter said and grabbed her.
"You know it's not going to be alright, Hunter," Harley said and got off him and sat down. She smiled. "What an unexpected heart problem..."
Harley winced. "I'm so sorry, Hunter. I really want to stay, I don't want to go. I've got so many things I want to do."
"Why are you saying goodbye?" Hunter cried, sobbing. "You can still do everything!"
"I really want to stay with you and with my parents..." Harley mumbled, tears of her own streaming away. "But I don't think I can..."
"This isn't your destiny!" He sobbed. "There are so many things to do!"
"Please find me again..." She begged, wincing.
"I'll always search for you. Always," He promised her. "So please stay."
She lightly laughed. "After this, let's play hide and seek one last time."
She tried to get up but ended up falling back down.
"Take it easy!" Hunter shouted. "If you rest a bit, we can play later!"
Harley could barely see Hunter now.
"I'll rest then..." She managed to say. "I'm so excited to play again. You will always find me, no matter what."
She smiled one last time and closed her eyes.
And would sleep forever.
