"Y-Your..." Hunter stammered.

"Our symbols don't match..." Harley whispered.

"WHAT IS THIS?!" Hunter shouted, angry. "WE NEED TO TRY AGAIN! THIS CAN'T BE CORRECT!"

"Hunter..." Harley said, terrified.

"What?!?" He asked. "Are you happy with the results?!"

"No, but we can't change it!" She cried, tears streaming down.

"Hey, don't cry..."

"We really can't change it, Hunter..." Harley repeated, trying to accept it.

"NO! I can't accept it!" Hunter cried. "You are my soulmate! I can't bring myself to see us in 10 years with a different family!"

Harley reached to him for a hug.

"We can't defy the goddess," Harley said.

Suddenly, a burst of lightning hit her heart.

"AHH!" She shouted, falling down with a mess of tears.

"Harley?" He asked but then got shot with a burst of lighting too.

"That's the price to pay," A boy muttered and the rest nodded. "You can't betray the goddess! Unless you want to have a life of pain, go and leave her!"

"I'll be in more pain if I'm not with her!" Hunter retorted, getting up. "She's my best friend! You wouldn't understand!"

"Hunter..." Harley whispered. "I'll get going now..."

She got up and left the shrine, wiping her tears.

"Your mark is beautiful, Hunter!" His mom exclaimed once he got back home. "How did it go? And where's Harley? We cooked all this food so hurry or the food will get cold!"

Hunter looked down, trying to conceal his tears.

"Hunter...?" His dad asked, walking down the stairs.

"We didn't get the same mark," Hunter said.

"P-Pardon?" His mom stammered. "You didn't get the same mark?! That's impossible! You guys have been together since birth, you guys match, and everything!"

"You can't change destiny," Hunter said, a wave of calm anger within him.

"H-Hunter!" His dad said. "It can't end like that..."

"I want to go to my room," Hunter muttered, heading up the stairs. "Give me some space please."

"My-" His mom tried to go after him but his dad stopped her.

"Leave him be, he must be feeling a lot of things," His dad reminded her, touching his symbol, an arrow.

"But truly... they are meant to be," She whispered, watching Hunter go up.

"It seems not," He sighed.

"How did it go?" Harley's dad, Brayden asked as Harley returned back.

"We've been dying to know!" Harley's second dad, Brody exclaimed.

Harley managed a small smile before revealing everything.

"Your symbol is beautiful!" Brayden marveled, caressing her cheek. "I've never seen a mark like this before."

"Ha... Every mark is different dad..." She managed to say.

"But yours..." Brayden mused. "Maybe it's just the lighting."

"We didn't get the same mark," Harley whispered.

"WHAT?!" Her dads shouted.

Harley then walked up to her room and closed the door.

I can't do anything... She thought as she looked at the window overlooking Hunter's bedroom window.

She saw Hunter throwing books everywhere angrily.

"YOU BASTARD!" He screamed so loudly she could hear despite the window being closed. "IS THIS MEANT TO BE A JOKE?! GIVE ME ONE LAST CHANCE!"

Both softly cried that night.
