Moving sucks, whether you're a special needs kid or not. The same applies for schools, sucks as well. Jughead was at Southside High the whole past years. It wasn't really a great school but at least no one cared about his service dog there. At the Northside, however, they surely would. They would care. He didn't want to attract attention, but HotDog will do that.
"You good to go?" FP asked, reaching him his backpack. Jughead just nodded, putting HotDog on the leash.
"Yeah, yeah. I'm good"
"Okay, either Sweat Pea, Fangs or Toni should get you home today, okay? I don't want you to be walking alone"
"I will be fine, dad. Don't worry"
"Then have a good day, okay?"
"Yeah, see you later"
"See you" Jughead clicked his tongue, HotDog standing up and looking at him and then they started walking towards Sweat Pea's trailer. Since he had the most stable family out of his friends, which was as much as an alcoholic father, Fangs tended to sleep there - only because of that reason. Toni was already standing outside, Sweat Pea too. Fangs however wasn't yet.
"Where's Fangs?"
"Bathroom break"
"Ah, he should hurry. I don't want to be late"
"We have plenty of time left"
School was actually better than expected. Sure, people were looking or staring even, whispers following him all the way. Some made some mean comments or threw paper balls at him during class. But there were also some nice people, asking if he was okay and if they could pet HotDog or what his name was. He honestly didn't think that.
When the bell rang, signaling that it was lunch break, Jughead exhaled exhausted and rested his head on the table, just for a few seconds, before he looked up again and then got his stuff together. Once he had shouldered his backpack again and had HotDog, he made his way over to the room that Mr. Weatherbee said he could use.
He walked down the hallway and as he saw the door, he opened it and then got inside, letting the light off before just walking over to the couch and sitting down on it, HotDog laying down on his foot. He honestly just needed to close his eyes for a second.
Though then the door opened and someone walked in, turning on the light. He groaned, covering his eyes. Squinting them open again, he looked at the person, seeing a blonde.
"Oh- I didn't see you there" she chuckled "usually I'm alone here" she said and Jughead just nodded "So, what are you doing here?"
"Well, Mr. Weatherbee said that I could stay here, over lunch break. What are you doing here?"
"I'm writing for the Blue&Gold, The School newspaper. I was just going to grab some stuff. Why are you spending lunch break here and not outside?"
"Because, if you haven't noticed, this down here is HotDog and he is a service dog, which means that people stare or throw paper balls at me or something else, especially people like Reggie or Cheryl"
"Can I pet him?"
"Sure, go ahead. He's used to it anyways" the blonde nodded, reaching to pet the dog "What's your name?"
"Betty, you?"
"Jughead, one of the new kids"
"He's so cute, since when do you have him?" he paused, looking at her for a second. Not a question about why.
"Uhm, three years by now"
"Seems like a good friend. How come you spend your lunch break here?"
"Well, there are a lot of sounds and lights and people and I have HotDog, so I don't really have that many friends"
"Oh come on. You're cute, you have to have friends!" Betty protested and Jughead's cheeks heated up, him hiding his face in HotDog's fur.
"I-I'm not cute"
"Of course you are!"
"Uh... you know what? I actually have to go, uhm I have to go to class, cause, you know, homework" he mumbled, standing up. Though when he did, all his eyes could focus on was the reflection of the flickering light on the table. He noticed that HotDog was pulling him and he tried to move along with him though already before he reached the hallway, he fell to the ground.
"Jughead!" Betty asked, running over to him as soon as she saw him seizing on the ground. Once he was in front of him, Betty kneed down in front of him. HotDog was standing beside him and barking - at least until he heard people approaching them. Betty looked up and saw two boys running over to him.
"How long has he been seizing?" one of them asked and she shrugged.
"I-I don't know, what is happening?"
"It's okay, Fangs call FP" the smaller nodded, taking out his phone and calling Jughead's father, while the boy himself slowly stopped seizing.
"Pea...?" Jughead asked groggily, slowly opening his eyes.
"Hey, yeah, we are here. You just had a seizure. Your dad is already informed, Jug" he said, pulling Jughead closer so that he could rest his head on his knees. Jughead just nodded, too tired to move and just closing his eyes again "Try to stay awake until FP comes, okay?"
"Mhm..."
"Is he okay...?" Betty asked.
"Yeah, just tired, don't worry" the smaller said, petting HotDog. Once FP came, Sweat Pea shook Jughead, who groaned but eventually opened his eyes again, as his father helped him.
"Thanks for calling me. We will see us later"
"Sure thing" FP nodded and then they got in the car.
"I'll explain everything to you" Sweat Pea said, getting up, and Betty nodded.
Someone knocked on the door and FP got up, walking over and opening it, just to see the blonde.
"Hey, I'm Betty- uh... Jughead had a seizure today and-" she chuckled "What I'm trying to say, I just came to ask if Jughead is okay and if I could come inside and bring him these" she held up a bag with cookies. FP smiled softly, opening the door further to let her in.
"Sure, but I'm not sure if he's still asleep" she nodded. He closed the door and then walked over to Jughead's room "Here we are"
"Thanks" she knocked on the door and then walked inside,, closing the door behind her again before looking up. Jughead was sitting on the bed and his laptop was on his laptop where he was just watching something up until the point where she had walked in. HotDog was laying beside him, lifting his head upon hearing her.
"Betty?"
"Hey, I just wanted to see how you are"
"I'm okay" she nodded, smiling.
"I'm glad. Oh, uh I baked you these" Betty walked over to him and reached him the bag of cookies.
"Cookies? For me?" she hummed "So that means that I didn't scare you away?" Betty chuckled, shaking her head.
"No, don't worry. You won't scare me away that easily"
"That's good. Want to- uh do you want to... eat those with me? And maybe stay for a bit more and watch a movie with me or so?"
"Sure, what do you think of thrillers?"
"Oh I'm a sucker for those, Betty" she smiled, sitting down on the edge of the bed. Jughead went on Netflix and then just started playing the next movie that came to his mind.
"I love that one"
"Me too" they watched the movie, shared the cookies, one time FP walked inside and told them to let the door open, which caused Jughead to blush, and then later on in the evening, Betty walked home again, still texting Jughead.
