• Bughead family being into ultra four racing and sometimes things go wrong
• parent!Bughead
• hospital, injury, etc. (nothing too serious/detailed though)
• We've been watching "King of the Hammers" on Prime Video if you can't tell, we will not apologize (This is highly inspired by the 2nd episode "Find the line" but we ofc added our angst)
Sierra Blanca, Texas.
The sun was high up on the desert, the air seeming to glimmer. The usually free space was occupied by trailers and new car pits for the second race on the journey to King of the Hammers.
"You guys need anything?" Betty asked, walking over to the rest of the family as she carryed her five year old daughter on her shoulders. The girl was a mirror of her mother, the same golden curls, the same crystal blue eyes and the same rosy cheeks.
"Daddy!" She yelled, running towards the man upon spotting him. She reached out her arms for him to pick her up and Jughead chuckled, cleaning his hands on his overall before picking her up.
"Hey there, angel. Are you coming to check up on me?" He asked Madeline, who nodded with a big smile as he pulled a curl out of her face. Betty couldn't keep in the soft laugh at seeing the interaction before she walked over to her husband, wrapping her arms around his waist to lean over and peck him on the cheek.
"You're all dirty again" She commented, wrinkling her nose as she looked at the smudge of engine oil on his cheek. Chuckling softly, Jughead went to wipe it away.
"How are you doing? Maddie is being a good girl?" Jughead asked before turning around to face their daughter, who nodded eagerly.
"Maddie is not a good girl and you know that. She's just being the best for you, and once you're gone, she turns into a troublemaker" Madeline didn't let the comment slide, crossing her arms over her chest with a pout.
"Am not!"
"What? No. I can't believe that" Jughead said, gasping dramatically as he adjusted his grip on the five year old resting on his waist, in order to keep her from slipping out of his grasp "I can't believe that you would ever say something like that. How could a cutie like this be bad?"
"Oh please, you know that she's a little terror. The amount of times this baby has been put into the time out corner is ridiculous" Betty chuckled before turning back to Jughead again, serious now "Do you still have enough water? It's really burning today" Jughead nodded, turning to look down at his jumpsuit, where he kept his started water bottle in one of the pockets.
"Yeah, we're fine here. Thanks though"
"And sunscreen?"
"Yes, two hours ago, after we had breakfast with you" Jughead reminded her and she nodded.
"I know, but you can't blame me for worrying. Just... make sure that you guys aren't staying out in the direct sun for too long, okay? I don't want you to overheat"
"It's just qualifying day, we'll be fine" Jughead told her, leaning over in order to kiss her. Upon seeing that, Madeline slapped him on the shoulder to get them to stop.
"Ew"
"Oh, yes. I forgot. No affection is allowed when you're around" Madeline just poked out her tongue and Betty sighed softly as she turned around to face Jughead again.
"Alright, just be careful yeah? It's important for you guys to take care of yourselves. You're probably going to be out here all day, in the heat" Jughead exhaled, giving in. He knew that he couldn't win this. They've had this specific discussion often enough and all it did was take time off his schedule — and he didn't have that at the moment.
