With the clicking of my shoes ;echoing in the corridors I'm roaming, I look around. Saturdays in Hogwarts had always been the favourite days of my week. Today, time already passed to afternoon. I still kept wondering as why there was yet no hint of darkness outside. The sun usually set way earlier.
As I continue walking, voices from behind me get audible. I keep on walking straight , until I sort the voices as very familiar ones.
I don't even get to turn around, when Daphne already spots me. "Evie!" Her voice rings trough the hall.
Only that she isn't alone, but together with Parkinson standing at the end of this candle-lit corridor.
I greet them and as they catch up to me, Daphne speaks. "We were just planning on hanging in the courtyard. Do you wanna join us?" And I don't even hesitate before saying yes.
We head into the huge yard. My eyes automatically wander to Dracos and mine spot under our tree. Surely I am not planning on heading there without him. Luckily none of the other two is either, because then they pull me into the complete other direction and under a complete different tree.
We sack down, rest against the tree and make ourselves as comfortable as possible.
Half an hour I spend with letting the courts fresh feeling flow into me. None of us surprisingly said a word in this long time, telling me they were enjoying the upon us laying silence as much as I was.
When more moments pass I hear Parkinsons voice beside me.
"Jacobs...I sort of..um..have a question."
Daphne and I look at her."For Gods sake, please call me Evie or Evangeline. Whatever you like. Just not Jacobs." I huff. She looks bewildered at me. Surely that's completely understandable.
Of course we aren't friends. We aren't. Not quite. But the other day...the day of the common room party really quite showed me, that there is a side of Parkinson, I d like to get to know.
It's strange, but the feeling of finally getting some girlfriends out of my own house excites me. Unbelievably much.More than anything else, because instead of weird glimpses thrown at me, I want to feel friendships. Not just talk here and there with others, but genuinely bond.
Parkinson starts scratching the back of her head slowly. "What was the question, Parkinson?" My curiosity grows. She frowns.
"Merlin, you're right, that strange surname Basis really reaches my nerves. Call me Pansy then, I guess" I nod.
"This question might be really weird, but I just kind of wondered how you and Draco...
you know... got to know each other. Surely you've met here at Hogwarts, but I recall the two of you not even talking in our first year here."I inspect her suspiciously. Her eyes widen as realisation dawns. "God no! Please, I'm not some fucking psycho who's stalking and obsessing over him or something. I just really kept asking myself that!"
Daphne snorts. "Oh yeah? Tell that this one rumour of you taking an ill-making potion just so Draco Malfoy could take care of you."
Pansy groans. She let's her head fall back.
"Wait" I say "It was just some rumour?!"
Her head swiftly snaps up."Don't tell me you believed that!" I laugh out loud and as she cries out again, Daphne joins me.
"How could someone possibly come up with this kind of a scenario?" I ask.
"You know.." Pansy begins. "I once joked about doing that. Okay yes, I might have pulled it trough back then, but I truly didn't and would never think about such thing ever again!"Really, I should have known better. Especially after considering how cruel people could be with rumours about Draco and me.
I laugh out loud, when a actual complete forgotten memory hits me.
"But you kept saying things like 'stay away from him' only months ago" She opens her mouth, but doesn't say a thing.
"I'm a bad person, aren't I?" She turns to Daphne. Daphne grins wide. "No, just fucking pathetic when you have a crush."
Pansy looks at me again.
"Really...it was just back then. I don't have a crush on him anymore and I wasn't even that into him." She begins but Daphne immediately raises her brows."Oh really?-"
"Daphne will you for once shut the fuck up?!"
I huff at the two."Really Evie, I after that then realised, that he would never ever belong to me, and instead to someone else."
What?
We stay in silence, none of us saying a word, when I eye Pansy again.
"To answer your question..
Draco and I really have not even glanced anywhere near each other's ways in first year. We haven't. It started in year two." I begin and pictures of 12-year old Draco pop up inside my vision.I smile.
"It really is quite ridiculous, but I had gotten detention that one day in our second year, because I'd broken the reserve quill from Professor Snape, which is originally hilarious, because I'd only gotten it after breaking mine." Pansy and Daphne chuckle. I go on."Draco had gotten into detention for being out past curfew just because he so necessarily needed to spy on Harry Potter and his friends...
Detention was watched over by Hagrid, and Draco and I still cannot recall that being allowed for two two-years, but our punishment was to get into the forbidden forest and search for something. I could totally swear Hagrid mumbled something about dead unicorns or something"The two intensely listen, nodding here and there.
"We went in there. Into the forest, so dark not even the lantern we were givenhelped. And you know what the fuck Hagrid did once we were in there and in the middle of nowhere? In pure darkness?"
"No? What?" Daphne asks.
"He left us all alone. He just left us, saying he quickly needed to do something. Draco and I were some dwarves standing there all anxious. And on top of that, complete strangers. We were complete strangers and hadn't talked once before.
A while after Hagrid had left...oh my god I cannot even say it." I stop but both of them instantly shriek."No!"
I chuckle at the memory.
"I turned to him and asked him if he could hold my hand. And when I tell you, he took it in a heartbeat...He really still won't admit it, but this boy was scared as hell..maybe even more scared than me." I laugh. Both of them join."No fucking way!"
"What?!""God yes, I remember second year Draco. Oh Merlin, he was the biggest little twat I'd ever seen.. Pansy.." She turned to her.
"Do you remember 12- year old Draco?"Pansy nods. "Wouldn't even think of forgetting that one. Oh and how I remember the way he'd always looked at Evie like she was some golden treasure."
"Yes!"
"Wha-"Before I get to ask, a soft voice behind me sounds.
"Evie?"
