Hey guys! It's Emmy!!
This chapter is all about improving your technique! Technique is one of the most important thing in dance, and is basically how you do everything. Having good technique makes you look like a beautiful fairy, but bad technique makes you look like an elephant (not really, you just don't look as fairy like.)
This chapter was suggested by MikaylaJaneWelch and Nikeisha118
1. Relax. Stand in first position (or any position really) with your arms in your favourite position. Look in the mirror and notice any parts of your technique that need work. Are your arms sloppy? Not turning out properly? Can't seem to hold your head properly? Write these things down.
2. Determine what is the most important one to fix, then write it down at the top of the list, then the second most important, etc. this will be the order you work on these things.
3. If you need to improve your turnout, you will need to do stretches like frog, butterfly, etc. if you need to fix your arms, practice holding your arms until they feel comfortable in the position and look nice. if you need to work on your posture, imagine you're wearing a pair of skinny jeans. (Seriously, my ballet teacher told me this and it helped a lot!) if you need to work on the placement of your hips in an arabesque, place your hands on your hips and force yourself to keep your hips straight. The things you need to work on depend entirely on what level you are at, or how much you have learnt, so for any specific help in technique for any particular dance move (turns, leaps, etc) feel free to private message me and I can help you there (or in the comments).
4. Think positive thoughts. To achieve something, you need to believe in yourself, so just tell yourself you can do it and eventually you will. it doesn't matter what level you're at, or how well you can dance, all that matters is that you enjoy it!
These are all the tips for technique I have at the moment, but if I think of a few more, I will make a part two.
Thanks for reading!! Make sure to leave any questions, advice or tips in the comments!
