Hey! It's been a long time, and I missed you all! Yay for Oversplits in my straddle jump (it's on a tramp but whatevs).
I know this isn't the combinations chapter, but how would you guys feel if I made a separate book for just combinations?
I decided to write a little chapter on essentials for dance, or what I use constantly/take to every class.
~ Dance Bag
• Used to store all your shoes, your water bottle and any other things you take to class
~ Dance Shoes
• Pretty self explanatory, they're shoes you wear while you dance. You will probably need specific shoes for your classes, but below are a list of the shoes and their uses.
- Jazz shoes - used for mostly Jazz. They can be used for Lyrical or Contemporary. They come in tan or black
- Ballet Flats - Used for ballet. They are generally pink in colour.
- Pointe shoes - Used for pointe classes. Your teacher will tell you when you are ready to go en pointe.
- Half Soles - Can be used for Lyrical or Contemporary. They are basically half a ballet shoe with elastic wrapping around the foot to hold it on. The colour depends on the brand.
- Foot Undeez - Little underwear like things for your feet. I personally don't like them because when I turn with them on, my toes catch on the ground. They can be any colour, but the most common colour is flesh tone.
- Character shoes - These are shoes that are used for character. They are black shoes with a slight heel on them. They have a flesh coloured strap to keep them on your feet.
- Tap shoes. - Quite obvious, but they are used for tap. They can come with a strap or laces, and sometimes the ones with the strap on them have a heel. They can be either tan or black.
~ Water Bottle
• Pretty self explanatory. Mine holds about 1L in it.
~ Hair Ties, Bobby pins, etc
• It's good to have extras of these in case someone in your class needs to use them or yours breaks or something like that. It's also good to keep a hairbrush.
~ Personal Hygiene Equipment
• Duh. Just in case Aunty Flow decides to pop into town early or something. Deodorant is always good too.
~ Street Shoes
• These are to wear before and after class, as wearing dance shoes on the concrete can wreck them, and most teachers hate when their students do this.
~ A change of clothes
• Normally I just wear a dress or a cardigan over my leotard, but obviously what you wear over your dance clothes is optional.
~ Spare tights, shorts, crop tops, leotards
• Basically just keep any spare dance clothes you want in your bag for just in case. For example, one time I was wearing tights and they split when I done the middle splits. I had to borrow someone's shorts, so now I always keep at least one extra pair in there.
~ A quick snack
• For those days when you're hungry.
~ Stretching Equipment
• For stretching, Oversplits, etc.
~ Kneepads
• These protects your knees.
~ Toe pads
• These protect your toes!
~ A Lipbalm
• In case your lips get dry
~ Dance Journal
• You can get your teacher to write notes in it or you can write corrections after classes. This helps so much with technique and stuff, depending on how often you do it and how consistent you are with it.
That's all folks! Thanks for reading! I appreciate every vote, comment and follow!
Don't forget to request a chapter!
