(IN LIGHT OF MY FUTURE CHAPTERS SURROUNDING SEASON 2, THIS HAS BEEN REWRITTEN TO OBSCURE CERTAIN INFO)
Dae-eun and Gi-hun sat in a pristine white limo, hands bound with blindfolds on.
The Front Man sat near them.
They were being taken back to civilisation from the island.
The Front Man poured a glass of champagne, replacing the cork in the bottle.
"You both should celebrate, that was quite the game back there." He said, taking a swig from his glass. "I don't think we've ever had two winners before."
"Really?" Dae-eun asked.
"Yes, usually only one Player survives, but... it seems that an extra one managed to slip through the net." He replied.
Gi-hun was quiet, whether tired or uninterested in conversation, he wasn't talking.
"So- are you the head of the games?" Dae-eun asked.
The man in question was silent for a moment.
"Excuse me?"
"...am I not allowed to ask questions?"
"...The Pink Soldiers are commanded by me, yes."
"So you are the man in charge?"
"...yes."
Well, at least she got some closure.
Finally, the Front Man managed to regain his composure.
"We'll be dropping the two of you off close to your residences, Player 456, you'll be first."
"What about our winnings?" Dae-eun asked.
"You'll be given a card with the funds ready to use when you get out. I suggest you don't lose it."
"Speaking of which... how much do we get?" Gi-hun prompted.
The Front Man paused, looking at his glass for a moment.
"...considering the special circumstances, your winnings will be split equally down the middle. Rather than one person getting 45.6 billion won, the two of you will receive 22.8 billion each."
"So there's only ever been one winner?"
"The games are designed to weed out the weak. Usually, the final game is between two finalists, with the winner taking home the entire cash prize."
"...but because four of us survived..." Dae-eun began
"...considering the game, it was possible for there to be two winners." The Front Man affirmed.
The limo was silent for a moment before the Front Man spoke up again.
"A word of advice? Try to forget everything that happened. Think of the games as a dream. And- for you both, it wasn't a very bad one."
...
The limo ride was remarkably short before the door opened, Gi-hun was thrown out, and the door shut.
Engine revving, the limo drove away, now with only Dae-eun and In-ho in the back.
"Did you know Jun-ho well?" He asked.
Dae-eun felt herself tense.
"Sorry?" She asked, feigning ignorance.
"Did you know Jun-ho well?" He repeated more firmly, brokering no argument.
How does he know about Jun-ho...
"...Why are you asking me?" She questioned.
"Because I'm afraid to say you won't be seeing him again." He stated darkly.
Dae-eun pondered for a moment.
"...what did you do?"
The fact Dae-eun couldn't see him somehow made this more nerve-wracking.
"He met the same fate as the others who interfere with the games. I would suggest not wasting any other thoughts on him."
Poor Jun-ho... all he wanted was to find his brother...
The Front Man took another sip of his champagne.
"You played well, during your time at the games. Your choice game in Marbles in particular was inspired. Nim, was it?"
Dae-eun cleared her throat, she still wasn't free until they let her out of this car.
"Yes. I knew the trick after a con-artist tried to pull it on me a few years ago." She stated.
"It was an excellent play." He stated.
Dae-eun's brow knitted together.
"Why are you being so nice to me? You threw Gi-hun out without so much as a 'well done'... and anybody who tried to get special treatment inside the games was shot." She questioned.
"You were a winning pick by one of the VIPs. I assume you know who they are by the way you looked at the viewing platform during the final game."
He saw that, huh...
"That VIP requested that you be treated well for finishing in such a... spectacular fashion." In-ho stated.
Dae-eun let out a small scoff.
"Something... wrong?" The Front Man questioned flatly.
"Dunno whether to feel honoured or disgraced. A rich man believed I would win... lucky me."
Dae-eun thought she heard a small chuckle before the brakes were pressed, causing her to lurch forward momentarily.
"We've arrived." The Front Man stated, now with the deeper distortion of a mask.
Wait- he wasn't wearing one the whole ride?
The door opened and Dae-eun felt herself pushed to get out by gloved fingers.
A small piece of plastic was placed into her hands as she heard the door shut.
She felt engraved metal numbers on it, as well as the smoothness of a reading chip.
Well, there's the card...
The limo sped away, leaving nothing but dust in its wake for Dae-eun to cough.
She reached up and managed to tear her blindfold off, then used her teeth to remove the binds on her hands.
The debit card she had been given was golden yellow, like the golden ticket from Willy Wonka.
She was where she had been picked up in the mini van, only a five minute walk from home.
Grandpa...
