The baseball game

Alex's POV

It was the day of the baseball game. Dad was under the impression that we would go to an indoor stadium, so he told us to be safe while he sat with Cora and Billy to watch the game. Jake had to study for an important test that was on Monday which made me pout. Edward agreed that Jake should be let in on the secret seeing as Alice had a vision of him knowing anyway.

I dressed semi casually and did my hair into a high messy bun. Bella was forbidden from coming as she got caught fucking Eric in the janitors closet. You could practically see the steam coming out of dad's ears. After an embarrassing trip to the clinic, which ended in Bella being diagnosed with an STD. Bella was forced to call all her 'lovers' to inform them of predicament.

Strangely enough dad's dead friend Waylon had also gotten the same STD before he died. Witnesses had said that they saw a prepubescent boy with long brown hair hanging around Waylon weeks before he died. I had to excuse myself from that conversation as I could barely hold in my laughter.

My dad was a good cop, but he could get a bit blindsided by the people he loves. It was a flaw, but I adored him for it.

There was a knock at the door, and Cora answered it for us "Edward! How nice to see you! Alex is finishing her dinner, so can you wait a moment?" "Of course, it's lovely to see you as well Cora. How have you been?" "I've been great! Thank you for asking" he nodded "Sheriff Swan, Mr. Black I hope life has been treating you both well?"

Dad nodded while Billy grumbled. He still didn't fully like the Cullens, but he respected the odd relationship forming between me, Jacob, and Edward. "I was disappointed that Jacob couldn't attend, but I understand that school is important. If Jacob needs any help studying Alex, Angela, Ben, and my siblings all have a study group that Jacob is more than invited to join" Edward offered still being polite. Billy glanced at me in question as I finished off the beef stew that Cora had made.

I smiled and nodded. He smiled and turned to Edward "That would be wonderful. Jacob tends to get distracted with his cars that he forgets to study" Edward smiled "My sister Rosalie is the same" dad turned to look at Edward in surprise "Really?" Edward nodded "She's quite the grease monkey compared to popular belief" they spent a few minutes chatting before we left.

Edward drove me to an open field where the rest of his family was in baseball gear. It looked like Rosalie was up to bat first, Alice was the pitcher, and Esme was the umpire. Edward suddenly groaned as he made put on a referee bomber jacket and cap

I turned around to ask what the problem was when I saw Bella's rusty truck pull up beside Emmett jeep. Bella stepped out wearing jeans, with a gray sweater and one of Phil's old baseball jerseys on top with her hair in a tangled ponytail. She walked over to the group looking like the cat that caught the canary much to Edward and Rosalie's annoyance.

"You weren't invited, Bella, go home" Edward said in a tense voice "But I thought you needed a referee?" Bella said innocently "We have a referee, Alex, now go home bitch" Rosalie snarled as she wrapped an arm around my shoulders. "Just call ''em like you see 'em" she whispered to me and kissed my cheek. I nodded and went to stand behind Esme.

Bella didn't leave and instead stood off to the side lines. Rosalie batted but didn't make it back to home base in time. "Looks like blondie's out" Bella snickered making Rose glare at her "I'm sorry Rosie" I whispered. She turned to me and her face softened and she shrugged.

Jasper was up next, and he too was out. Edward was just too fast! Carlisle was up next and seemed to have a plan. When he hit the ball it zoomed between Edward and Emmett who crashed into each other while trying to catch it. The sound that their bodies made when they crashed sounded like boulders falling.

"Now I see why you need the thunder" I laughed. Carlisle made a home run. Alice's face suddenly went into a daze, and Edward's face morphed into one of horror. Edward made a beeline for me as Alice cried out "Stop!" Everyone gathered around me and began talking all at once. I couldn't only make out a few sentences.

"I thought you said that they were leaving!"

"They were! But then they heard us"

"How far away are they?"

"They just turned around!"

"I need to get Alex out of here"

"It's too late"

Bella approached us "What's going on? Did you guys change your minds?" She asked turning to me with a smug look on her face. Everyone glared at her, even Carlisle and Esme! "No," Jasper said tensely "we've got nomads coming to visit" I gulped and started to rub my belly. "They're here" Alice whispered.

"Put your hair down" Edward hissed urgently Bella and I quickly did as told. We looked up to see three vampires approach us "Stay behind me" Edward whispered to me Bella and I stood behind Edward and watched the next events unfold.

The leader, Laurent, returned our ball and asked to play. Carlisle agreed claiming that a few of us were about to leave. The blonde, who had been introduced as James, kept staring at Bella with a strange look on his face Bella stared back with a familiar look of lust in her eyes though she tried to make herself seem scared. The red head, Victoria, glared at Bella. It wasn't hard to see that James and Victoria were mates.

Edward turned around and ushered Bella and I too the cars. A wind blew and James suddenly gasped "You brought snacks" he lunged for us but Edward pushed Bella in the opposite direction and grabbed me and jumped away. The family leaped to our defense and Victoria went to James's "Humans?" Laurent said startled. "The girls' are with us" Carlisle said coldly Laurent looked between me and Edward and seemed to realize something.

"I can see that the game is over, we will take our leave now. James!" He quickly tried to pull his companions back. Edward scooped me up and sped me to the car. What just happened?
