Alex's POV
I was driving to the diner straight from school. I didn't really want to go, but I knew I had to eat and dad was looking forward to spending time with Bella and I. I parked outside and entered. I saw dad sitting alone at a table, and walked towards him. I sat down on his right side and said "Hey dad, sorry I'm late the front office lady wanted to talk to me about some things. Were you waiting long?"

"No, not long. Where's Bella?" "She's stuck at the front office still because she won't stop arguing with the administrators" Dad shook his head "She better not start trouble here. I'm not Renee, so I will send her to juvie or military school if she starts her nonsense again" I nodded and gently took his hand to calm him down.

Bella's 'nonsense' usually included taking drugs, bullying, harassment, drugging teenage boys to have sex with them, sleeping with teachers for good grades, alcohol, and abortions. All this came to light during the trial, but they didn't convict her just yet. Instead they gave her probation with dad which included weekly bedroom checks and drug/alcohol tests, going to her probation officer, and her staying off the police's radar.

One assault charge, one restraining order, or even one little misdemeanor and she was done. I stayed out of Bella's business, and kept my mouth shut. Truthfully I was hoping to mend our relationship, and start over with her, but her views on sex and rape make it impossible for her to understand why her parents were sent to jail. All she knew was that I didn't shove a coat hanger inside me, and now her parents were imprisoned for it.

Looking at her appearance most wouldn't think that she was like that. They'd think that she spend more time studying and reading a book while listening to rain than worrying about boys, or partying, or her appearance, but her two and a half hour daily routine made me think otherwise.

Despite how long she spent in the bathroom Bella had a dreary and rather sloppy appearance with her alabaster almost translucent skin that made me think that she was anemic, and her stringy dark brown hair that resemblance to seaweed was uncanny, and her chocolate brown eyes which were the only attractive thing about her. They gave her a doe like innocent look. Her thin body was box shaped as she had no curves at all.

Then she was clumsy due to her forced trips and falls as a child. She would fake it to get attention on her faster after she and Renee put me in the hospital. Her legs now had these muscle spasms that forced her to face plant at least five times a day. She blamed me for her clumsiness, but I don't see how her tripping herself and making herself cry while I was lying in a hospital bed because she and Renee couldn't understand that beating someone usually ended with them losing blood and needing stitches or a cast/brace for their arms, legs, ribs, etc.

I shook my head to clear my thoughts as Bella sat down on dad's left across from me. Dad had gotten himself a steak and mashed potatoes, he got me chicken tenders and French fries, and he got Bella a veggie burger with sweet potato fries. I knew that she would've preferred a garden salad, but she ate her burger anyway to my surprise.

"I just can't get over how grown up you girls are!" Cora, the waitress gushed "I mean Alex, you're really glowing, dear! And Bella you look.....good?" She seemed unsure about Bella. Cora was scanning Bella most likely looking for a truthful compliment, but Bella's natural appearance and fashion taste wasn't the best. Bella on the other hand took the compliment with a flip of her hair and arrogantly stated "Thanks, I'm on a strict diet so I only let healthy things enter my body."

Cora nodded unsurely before she turned to me and said "I'll be back with some peppermint tea" then turned around and walked off. An older male who I recognize as Waylon dad's childhood friend approached us he leered at us with a facial expression that reminded me of HIM and said "Hey sweethearts, remember me? I played Santa one year"

Dad shook his head and looked up at Waylon briefly before looking at his food "Waylon they haven't had a Christmas here since they were 4 and 2" "Yeah but I'm sure that I made an impression" he noticed that Bella returned his lustful gaze and smirked. I felt really uncomfortable, so I scooted closer to dad. He glanced at me confused and concerned as he wasn't paying attention to Waylon and Bella eye fucking each other. I only shook my head and refused I contact.

Dad assumed that I must've been uncomfortable around a strange adult male, and placed a comforting hand on my back. He rubbed soothing circles on it wordlessly which relaxed me a little bit. Cora returned with my tea, and noticed Bella and Waylon's intense eye contact. Her face morphed into one of disgust, and turned to me. Giving my state a once over she quickly realized the issue and decided to nip this in the butt.

"Waylon let these girls eat!" And shooed him off making Bella glare at her with a huff before turned and munching on her fries. Cora reached over and squeezed my hand "I have other tables, but I'll be back in a minute to check on you, alright? Just eat a little bit, okay? You are eating for two after all!" She smiled which I returned and nodded. She left and I realized that she gave me an unfamiliar warmth.

Deciding to investigate later I turned to my food and began to nibble on my chicken tenders. "So how was school?" Bella spoke up first with her usual obnoxious attitude "Well it was going great until Alexandria embarrassed me in front of my new friends and chased off a boy that was interested in me" Dad looked confused and turned to me and asked "Alex? What is she talking about?"

I sighed hoping to keep this a secret and not stress him out "Bella and her so-called 'friends' were gossiping about the Cullen and Hale siblings, so I shut it down. Then later in biology Edward Cullen chose to sit next to me rather than Bella, but then something upset him and he abruptly left" I explained leaving out the words Lauren had said and the bathroom incident in order to keep the peace.

"You chased him away!" Bella snapped "Bella stop, don't start that in Forks. Remember that you are on thin ice with the courts as is" Bella grumbled before stuffing her face with her veggie burger. Dad began muttering about 'bored gossipers. I returned to my chicken that began to taste like cotton.

I was currently laying in bed after doing my nightly routine, and talking to Jake about my first day while doing my homework. Remembering his words

"Yeah the Cullens are weird. The tribe even has legends about them, and they're not welcome in La Push" "Seriously?" "Yeah," he laughed "so don't let this 'Edward' jerk get to you. He's clearly either a moron or an asshole. Probably both" "Okay thanks for letting me vent to you Jakey. I'm sorry to dump this on you, but I really don't want to dump this on dad. He's already got enough on his plate."

"Hey it's no problem. You can't bottle all these things up Lexi. It's not good for you or the baby. Besides we're friends, and you're gonna need good friends in Forks" he was right Forks was a small town and it was full of judgmental gossiping people.

I ended the call, and got ready to go to sleep. My dreams consisted of golden eyes, a russet wolf, and ice cold and boiling hot hands.

Hoping to speak with Edward. I wanted to know what his problem was maybe apologize, and hopefully to fix it so I could make a new friend. All his siblings seemed to like me, I guess that I just wanted his approval. But he didn't show up.

Seeing my worried wandering gaze Rosalie put her arm around my shoulders in a comforting manner "Don't worry, some family drama went down in Alaska. He'll be back soon to apologize for being a jerk to you" I nodded and let her guide me into school.

The feeling of a puzzle piece that was missing bothered me the whole day.
