"Okay, now push!" Lisa yelled with Jisoo on top of her shoulder. Seulgi was kneeling on one knee, having Lisa stand up on it.

They immediately disassembled when they saw a guard walking in their direction.

"Hello, auntie! How are the fruits this season?" Lisa ran off to a vendor nearby.

"Wonderful, dear. Would you like to make a purchase?" The elderly woman smiled at Lisa.

"Actually, yes. Chaeyoung loves apples." She searched for her pouch while Seulgi offered to pay. "She likes how they're always nice and green."

Jisoo was stuck dopily smiling at the palace. They walked to sit under a tree deep in thought while munching away.

"This will not work." She noted in her pure dissatisfaction. "Sitting under this tree as if we're wise philosophers, helps nothing."

"Yes, we had already attempted to inform you but you never listened." Seulgi bit into her apple.

"Very well, we will figure out another way."

"And how could we do that with no connections to such royalty? Remember Sooya, we are mere servants to the throne now."

"I guess so."

Hurried footsteps approached their tree. Seulgi turned to see Jinyoung out of breath but still holding a smile.

"Sooya! Lisa! Great news!"

"I'm wallowing in my misery. If it's not this one specific thing I want to hear, it is not great news." Jisoo dismissed, clenching her eyes shut in annoyance.

"You both have the chance to be the next General."

"What?!" The girls stood up with conflicted emotions. He backed away in confusion. Was this not great news? As far as he knew, all soldiers loved the position of a General.

"Isn't that lovely to hear? You would have the chance to lead our army."

"I do not wish to fight against Sooya." Lisa looked at her in horror. "What if she clumsily scars my face? Chaeyoung will murder me!"

"I'm in greater danger! If my sword meets with you, it will rust immediately!"

"Pardon me?" The man chuckled at the two bickering duo.

"Forgive them, they're still a bit taken back from other engagements. What led up to these decisions?"

"As far as we are informed, General Jung watched us over and had already given the scroll of our accomplishments and contributions to the battle to the Emperor. This is purely picked on skills. Strength is what will determine the end. Therefore the decision to duel it out."

"When will it begin?" Seulgi inquired further.

"By the beginning of the next full moon, he plans to have a new General. Two whole days are given to prepare."

"So, he is throwing us into a ring and watching us battle it out like animals to choose?" Lisa paused her playfight with Jisoo to speak. "I assure you this will not go well."

"We unfortunately have no say in that. Please be prepared." He bowed his dismissal.

"I need to be one of the last two!" Jisoo declared.

"And why the sudden interest in this event may I ask?"

"The final soldier to be defeated becomes the princess' guard, Lisa."

"Of course, you would think of that." Seulgi began walking away, followed by the two.

"So how do we go about this thing? Many of the men are power hungry and wouldn't think twice about hurting us in the ring."
