The rottweiler said, "I don't take kindly to trespassers on my turf."Vivo fearfully replied, "I, uh, wasn't aware this was your territory."
"Well, do you know what I do to animals that cross onto my turf?"
"Uh...simply explain the misunderstanding and forgive and forget?"
Instead, the rottweiler growled viciously with his teeth bared!
Vivo gulped, "I guess not."
Vivo yelled as he ran as fast as his legs could carry him!
He dodged every obstacle in his way from a fire hydrant to a walking human.
But the rottweiler could dodge those as well.
Vivo was able to run fast enough to get ahead a really good distance.
Although, it was hard to see where he was going in such a fierce storm.
He didn't think it could get any worse.
But he looked up ahead and saw...
A huge black great dane!
It was about three times the size of the rottweiler!
It saw Vivo, who quickly skidded and ran the other way!
But it didn't take long for him to remember that the other way was the way to a rottweiler!
Just then, when he skidded again, he felt himself drop.
Vivo looked down...and saw his arm was caught between the bars of a storm drain!
He tried to pull his arm out, but he was stuck good.
Even worse, the rottweiler was a couple of yards away...while the great dane was only a few feet away!
Poor Vivo could do nothing but just get down, put his little head in his free arm, and prepare for what would happen next.
However...
*Swish*
Vivo felt a gust of wind blow right past him.
And it felt too quick and small to be the wind from the storm.
He then heard the sound of a dog fight.
He slightly opened his eyes and saw the great dane and rottweiler fighting.
Vivo still couldn't get his arm loose, so he just constantly opened and closed his eyes while the two dogs battled.
Finally, the rottweiler was sent running and whimpering.
But then, the great dane turned and started walking towards Vivo.
Vivo continued trying to get loose.
But he still couldn't get free.
He then looked over...and saw the great dane was right in front of him!
Vivo, once again, got down and put his head in his arm.
However...the great dane instead gently grabbed his ascot and started to carefully pick him up.
Vivo was a little confused as to what was happening.
He then felt a jolt.
His arm was finally out of the storm drain.
The great dane then gently put him back down.
Vivo could've started running again, but he was more confused than scared.
The great dane then asked, "Hey, you ok, kid?"
Vivo answered, "Uh...yeah? Yeah, I'm fine."
"Are you sure? No particular damage."
"No, I'm fine. Really."
*Thunder*
The dog and kinkajou both gasped and slightly jumped.
The great dane said, "Man, this storm is really bad."
He looked down and saw the poor kinkajou shivering.
"Oh, listen to me going on about the weather while you are cold and wet. But don't worry. I know a dry place."
Vivo replied, "That sounds...nice."
Vivo wasn't completely sure about trusting him.
But...he certainly didn't want to stay out in the rain.
Vivo started to follow the great dane along the sidewalk.
***
The great dane led Vivo along the street while trying to keep him dry by carefully walking over him.
Finally, the great dane said, "Here we are!"
Vivo saw they were in front of a building with a big sign.
'Key West Butterfly Garden'.
Vivo said, "This looks nice. But...it looks like it's closed."
However, the great dane said, "Not for me. My owners own the place. They even have living spaces up on the second floor. I can come and go as I please. Right this way."
He led Vivo around the back to a doggie door into the building.
Once inside, Vivo was in awe at the huge array of butterfly-themed merchandise.
The great dane then said, "My owners are lepidopterists. That means they study butterflies and moths. Eventually, they decided to open the place to house hundreds of butterfly species. As you can see..."
He led Vivo to the glass-enclosed habitat...that was filled with hundreds of different types of butterflies.
Vivo was amazed, "Wow."
The dog then handed Vivo a towel, "Here. Dry yourself off."
Vivo said, "Thank you. And thank you for saving me and inviting me inside."
The great dane said, "Hey, no problem."
Then he explained with slight anger, "I just hate seeing that! A big, tough dog picking on a small, helpless animal? Aargh! Burns me right up!"
Vivo was amazed.
With his past experiences with dogs, he didn't think he'd ever meet a nice dog.
Especially when one looked so tough being so...big.
The great dane then said, "Oh, by the way, the name's Vincent."
Vivo responded, "I'm Vivo."
Vincent realized, "Vivo? That kinkajou that performs in the Plaza?"
"That's me."
Vincent was then curious, "Why aren't you with your girl, Gabi?"
Vivo explained the whole scenario with the trolley and how Gabi was somewhere else in Key West.
Vincent then asked, "Would you like my help?"
Vivo asked, "I'm not saying 'no', but help me how?"
Vincent chuckled, "I have a great sense of smell. I could track her down for you as soon as the storm clears."
Vivo was more than pleased to hear that, "Oh, thanks so much!"
Vincent said, "Hey, always happy to help."
He then said, "Although...I'll need something that would have her scent."
Vivo took a moment...then realized he had something!
His friendship bracelet Gabi gave him.
He showed it, "Would this work? Gabi gave it to me not too long ago."
Vincent smiled, "That'll do."
Vivo sighed with relief.
He just had to wait until the storm was over.
Then Gabi was as good as found.
