Thank You For Being A Friend

The family finally made it home.

Vivo threw off the shirt and sash Novella gave him.

He liked them, but he preferred just the hat, scarf, and friendship bracelet.

Not much later, Rosa said to Gabi, "Oh, Gabi. Tomorrow, I have to work an overnight shift. I'll be gone all day tomorrow and won't be home until after midnight."

Gabi said, "Yikes."

Vivo agreed with a slight cringe.

Rosa continued, "So, if you want, I could arrange for you to sleep-over at one of your friends' houses."

Gabi said, "No, thanks. I'm good here."

Rosa sighed, "Gabi, I'm glad that you're friends with them, but sometimes keeping a friendship takes a bit more work."

Gabi said, "I know. It's just that...I already sleep at a friend's house. Right, Vivo?"

Vivo chittered in agreement...although he also agreed with Rosa.

Gabi doesn't really do a lot of things with other kids her age.

There wasn't really a problem with being alone.

But there will be a time where she would have to depend on others instead of her mother.

And she would need the help of someone her age.

For that, she would need to build a special bond with at least one other kid.

However, she believed she could do fine on her own.

Well...somewhat on her own.

After all, she now had Vivo.

Gabi and Vivo went into their room while Rosa was preparing dinner.

Gabi said, "You know, Vivo, I just have to say, no matter how many friends I may or may not have, I know for a fact that I have one friend who will always be there for me."

Vivo smiled as he knew she was talking about him.

Gabi continued, "After all, we both understand each other in our own way...like how Dad did."

Vivo slightly frowned in understanding.

Gabi's father, Carlos, had died a couple of years ago.

And as far as anyone could tell, Carlos was the only one who understood Gabi.

When he died, Gabi didn't have anyone she could relate to.

That is until she met Vivo after his beloved owner had died.

It didn't exactly take long for them to create a special bond to help them understand one another.

Gabi just truly appreciated how Vivo became the only friend who understood her.

With that, she decided to thank him.
