PRESENT-DAY
I ran across the New York streets, laptop bags, bags of different brands, and phones in hand. As if the disheveled hair was not enough, a car raced and flew past me the puddle of water splashing towards my face but I quickly moved out of the way in the process ruining my shoes, my favorite pair of Chanel, and my suit pants. I sighed and gave the car a finger-although the car was long gone I felt content that at least my ruined outfit ended with something.
This was my consequence, I guess.
I should have no one to blame. Once in a while, which I found to be more than usual I use public transportation to get to work. Either the subway or by taxi, preferably the latter find is a proper way to realize the struggles my employees face. As kind as I perceive myself to be, on occasion, I can be what people would entail l as the nightmare boss. Yes, I prefer my company to run according to my instructions and done when told during the time given.
My employees never understood my reasoning and I cared not for their understanding, I prefer they fear me rather than respect me. Gaining a person's respect does not automatically mean they will not betray, rather it gives them an opportunity. Only a few of my employees respect me and even they are my closest friends. Yes, I am not a complete nightmare.
I walked the newly tarred pavement, thanks to me, as I've seen many citizens almost trip and fall on the bare concrete. At first, it was amusing, then, unfortunately, it nearly happened to my brother who gave me an entire presentation and lecture about how hazardous the crack was. I had earplugs in the entire time.
"Good morning, Ms. Middleton." the security stationed at the glass push doors greeted. I leveled them with a faint smile and nodded, professional at its best. When I entered the building, the chatter lowered to a minimum yet still hushed voices previously continued. None dared to make a sort of statement disheveled state, they knew better.
I put up my index finger, the short white manicured nail reflecting the light as I walked towards the elevator. Immediately, the man and two women who were inside rushed to stop the elevator and I stepped in before the doors closed. One of the women, a blonde with blue eyes stared me down and stopped at my mud-filled shoes. I lifted a brow, daring her to say anything at all but she simply kept to herself, snickering. Interesting.
I pushed the button for a floor above, although that was not my floor and it reached quickly. The man, Yuvran, I believe knew exactly what to do and exited the elevator though he was going to the same floor as me. "Out," I said to the two women, they stood still and I turned my head to level one of them with an icy glare. The honey-blonde-haired woman seemed to recognize me and stepped out, trying to drag her friend in the process.
"What are you doing, why do we have to leave because of her? Who even is she?" the elevator doors started to close and I straightened out my hand as if to check my nails, waiting for her friend to in my favorite words, shock her, "Shut up, I'm so sorry ma'am. She didn't take her pills this morning." she apologized and her friend leveled her with an upset glare.
