Dr. Staple entered in a small room, that also happened to be her office, and she saw Y/n, a beautiful teenager ready for her appointment. Well, ready was a big word, she wasn't the one who wanted to come here, it was her parents who took an appointment with Dr. Staple. Apparently, she was the best psychiatrist in town and after all the psychiatrists Y/n had met in her life, this one was their last chance. Y/n's parents were sure their daughter had an illness, but the girl believed the opposite, that's why she never let any psychiatrists read her. But at the sight of Dr. Staple, Y/n couldn't resist at the thought that she looked nice with her neutral coloured clothes.
The young woman pulled herself together and she crossed her arms on her chest to be less readable by the doctor. The psychiatrist sat in the chair in front of her, crossed her left leg over her right one and leaned in to show her patient she was ready to hear what she had to say.
"It is a pleasure to meet you Y/n, I am Doctor Ellie Staple and I'll be your psychiatrist. How are you?" A kind smile was taking all the place on the psychiatrist's face, but it didn't make Y/n change her mind, she wouldn't talk to be over with this appointment as soon as possible.
Y/n looked at the clock above the door and she rolled her eyes; time wasn't flying as fast as she thought. The psychiatrist nodded slowly before she opened a file, probably Y/n's. Dr. Staple clicked on her pen making Y/n look back at the red haired woman in front of her.
"Not a big talker, are you?" Stated the doctor closing the file immediately. The manner she put it on the small table next to her was so delicate that it reminded Y/n of her mother, how she used to be with her in the past. Tender... until she was convinced there was something wrong with her daughter. "I can deal with it. Look, I know it can be hard for you to open up to a stranger so take your time and if you are not ready today, it's fine."
Y/n stayed silent, she already heard that speech a bunch of times, every psychiatrist says that, but it's only a way to touch their patients' heart to make them talk. The young woman continued to stare at the doctor icily, but it didn't seem to disturb her at all. She still had that kind grin on her face and nothing seemed to be able to erase it. Dr. Staple nodded slowly and she leaned against the backrest of her slipper chair. An idea crossed her mind and she smiled even more, a thing that Y/n didn't think was possible.
"Maybe your intimidated because I know a lot of things about you and you don't know me at all.." Started the doctor before she was cut off by her patient.
"Me, intimidated?" Y/n scoffed, but it seemed to have pleased the psychiatrist.
"Well, the cat didn't eat your tongue, that's good to know." This remark amused Y/n and she tried hard not to let a smirk appear on her face by chewing her bottom lip. "So as I was saying, maybe you would like to ask me some personal questions to know me better."
"What time of questions?" The young woman asked, changing position to pull her leg against her body.
"I don't know, anything that crosses your head."
"Okay, so what about 'How old are you?' "
"Oh, that's a top secret information that I'm the only one who knows the answer."
"So your partner doesn't even know your age?" Dr. Staple looked away Y/n's playful smile, her lips slightly opened like she was about to say something before she looked back at Y/n's now inquisitive face.
"I'm not in a relationship with anyone sweetheart." Staple smiled softly at her patient who turned a light shade of red.
"I'm sorry, I just assumed that a beautiful woman like you had someone in her life."
"Do you have someone in your life?"
"Me? Pff, no! I don't trust anyone, so it's hard to make friends and to date someone." Y/n surprised herself that she said that, she never told this to anyone yet this woman had this manner to make Y/n trust her so easily. It never happened with anyone before.
"And why's that?" The psychiatrist asked, intrigued by the new information about her patient. Actually, she was more than intrigued, she wanted to know everything about her, not only because Y/n was her patient, it was just that Y/n had this little something that Ellie never saw in anyone.
Y/n sighed and looked at her fingers intertwined; that was something she never experienced before, talking about her feelings. And she was even more surprised by the fact that she was opening up with the type of people she never wanted to share her feelings with; psychiatrists. The young woman didn't answer at first, but the doctor gave off a kind of warmth that put Y/n in awe of this red head. She trusted her more than anybody else yet she just had met her.
"I don't know where it comes from.. after all the stories I heard with people being fake with their loved ones, I think I just created a carapace around me to protect myself from any kind of pain.. but I didn't know that I would be so lonely." Y/n's gaze looked sadly at the psychiatrist and she hoped from the bottom of her heart that she wouldn't cry.
"Have you ever tried to break that carapace and to trust people again?" Ellie was concerned, she didn't expect Y/n to open up so easily.
"I did try, but every time, I failed. It's just too hard for me to give my trust to someone, I'm so afraid of what they could do with it."
Dr. Staple continued to ask questions to her patient to understand better what she could do to help her. They talked for a bit, Y/n opening more and more without even realizing it. It was like she had known the doctor for years when it had only been forty minutes. Of all the psychiatrists Y/n had ever met in her life, Dr. Staple was definitely the most listening and understanding of all. It really looked like she loved her job and that she wasn't only doing it for the money.
The more they talked, the more Ellie discovered a whole different person than the one in the room at the beginning of the appointment. On the outside, Y/n looks like she is a cold girl who seems to care about nothing, but on the inside, she is a sweet, sad girl with an immense tenderness. While she was listening to her, Ellie understood that she got it from her mother, her father being to absent to have a good impact on the girl's life. A few minutes later, Ellie looked at the feminine watch around her wrist and she was surprised to see what time it was.
"Wow, I didn't expect to finish so quickly! It was nice to meet you Y/n." The doctor got up and walked towards the door, her patient following her closely.
"It was nice meeting you too Dr. Staple! Thank you for today, I'm looking forward to our next appointment." Y/n said giving the psychiatrist a big toothy smile.
"It's nothing, really! And I think you can call me Ellie from now on." Ellie smiled softly at Y/n who left the building happier than ever.
