New Year, new part :)

Happy New Year!!!

----------------------------------------------

I gaped at the agent in front of me--Leon S. Kennedy. The officer that survived the nightmares within Raccoon City alongside me.

It's been almost six years since I've seen him, but time has treated him more than well. He still looked like the rookie I fought beside but much...larger, and more mature. I could see the swell of muscles through his tight shirt, and the stance of someone who exudes confidence. His dirty blonde hair grazed the top of his cheeks, longer than before in a way that accentuates his sharp jaw and crooked smile. And his eyes– still that heart stopping shade of icy blue.

"Mykie," Leon said, his voice deeper in a way that reminded me of aged bourbon.

I attempted to pick my jaw up off the ground, "You're the agent from the white house?" How long has he been there? I'd heard he'd been picked up by Stratcom a while back but in the few times work had brought me to D.C. I'd never run into him, and I had definitely kept my eyes open.

He nodded, a one sided smirk grazing his lips as he stepped toward me, eyes sharpening. "And I guess you're the agent from the BSAA?"

"Ah, so you bozos did know I was coming," it slipped from my lips before I could think to bite my tongue. Shit that's rude. I haven't seen him in years and within two minutes of meeting again I'm throwing insults his way. Before I could utter an apology for the rude comment, Leon let out a low chuckle.

"Yeah, they told me on the way here, but I didn't know it would be you."

Small fireworks erupted along my spine at the way he said 'you'. I clenched my fists.

"They wanted the job done right," I mumbled, resisting the urge to chew on the inside of my lip and give away any sign of my nervousness. He didn't reply. He just stared, his eyes solid chips of ice.

The tension settling over us was threatening to strangle me.

"Do you know where Ashley is?" I asked, taking a small step away from him in an attempt to dispel the energy and escape his glacial stare.

His gaze clipped back to the other end of the gorge, like he was looking for the long gone Luis. "I met a local. He told me she's being held in a nearby church. He mentioned something about some sort of secret passage leading there in the village."

There's no questioning it now, Ashley was here somewhere.

My gaze dropped to the body of the farmhand between us. Blood dripped down his mouth, dragging along the edges of his throat to the dirt trail beneath. "What's going on with these people?" I looked back up, "and what's with the huge welcome wagon parading you across town?"

A small frown pulled at Leon's mouth, "Mendez. He's some kind of religious figure to the people here. I don't know what's happened to the village but, it's like they're in some kind of hostile trance."

I nibbled at my bottom lip, looking at the sprawl of bodies around us, some with their scarlet irises still on display. There's no way these people's modifications and Luis' appearance are a coincidence. Sera was a brilliant researcher by all accounts, which makes all this even more suspicious. What has he been up to all the way out here?

"Let's get to the church," I threw over my shoulder as I turned and headed toward the cement bunker. We need to get Ashley first and ask questions later.

I shoved my hands into the pockets of my jacket as Leon jogged to catch up to me. I couldn't help but side eye the shifting of his muscled chest as he fell into step beside me.
