"Damn, why is it so hot out here" I think to my self as I wait for my little brother outside of the Tulsa police station. Why did Dal have to get into trouble on one of the hottest days of the year? Well what else was he supposed to do, look for a job? do something productive? Yea right, this is Dallas Winston we are talking about here.

Just as I was thinking about driving away and letting him walk home in this heat by himself, Dal strolls out of the station with that devilish smerk of his, the smerk that makes greasy girls fall head over heels for him, aka, the smerk that absolutely infuriates his big sister.

"Really Dal?" I say looking at my brother trying to be serious. " Well hello to you too Delilah" my brother says in a snoody sarcastic tone.

I roll my eyes, "What the hell did you get in trouble for this time, especially without your big sis?" I fake pout, as I drive down the busy Tulsa streets.

"Oh, nothing big, I got bored and I needed some weeds-".

"So you stole them?"

"Well I didn't steal them....it was more like I took them without paying or asking permission. You would've done the same thing. ", my brother said in a matter-of-fact tone. Classic Winston.
I shook my head pulling up in front of the Curtis house.

" Yea, but here is the difference between you and I....I know how not to get caught, KID BROTHER!!!" I shout ruffling his ungreased hair. I jump out of the car, with Dal not far behind, and run up the stairs into the house, almost falling over Two Bit on the floor watching Mickey Mouse." Sorry Two Bit!!" I shout as I look for a place to hide, finding Darry at the kitchen table reading today's newspaper , "Sorry Darebear" i whisper as I squeeze under the table. His eyes never leaving the newspaper, but a small smile forms on his face.

"WHERE IS SHE?" dally shouts as he runs into the living room out of breath. I can see Ponyboy and Johnny shaking their heads on the couch. But then Two Bit turns all the way around and points at me under the table. Really Two-Bitch ? Dally walks into the kitchen and looks under the table staring me in the eye. " You little shit, you messed up my hair".

"Oops, did I, well that's too bad" just as Dally tries to grab me. Darry stands up.

"Hey, not in my house, leave your sister alone Dal"

" Yea leave me alone Dal" I mock while making a silly face at my little brother.

" Whatever man, you better watch your back, sis" Dally warns while walking over and sitting next to Ponyboy and Johnny on the couch.

" Thanks Darebear". I smile as Darry helps me up from under the table.

Darry is probably my best friend out of everyone in the gang. Of course I love everyone in the gang, they are my family. But me and Darry have been real close since 10th grade.
When my dad dragged Dal and I down here from New York, let's just say I wasn't the most teachable kid in school, I got into fights, cussed out a few teachers here and there, I really gave the Winston name its meaning. While Darry on the other hand was the smart, all star, popular athletic type.

How does a JD and the star football player become best friends? Hell I don't know either , I still wonder till this day, why he puts up with me.

Other than Darry I'm pretty fond of Ponyboy Curtis, Darry's youngest brother, and Johnny Cade. (Remember them sitting on the couch earlier? little cuties.) I love them like they are my little brothers, Soda too. Steve and Two-bitch are pretty ok too when the aren't acting like small children.I take the role as big sis/mom for everyone in the gang. Most of the time act like toddlers so me and Darry take on the role of the "mature adults". Well mostly Darry, because, I definitely find a good party at bucks bar whenever I can. Which isn't as often as I'd like too considering I work part time at the dingo.

Me and Dal both have rooms at Bucks bar, but on any given day you can find us slumped on the Curtis' couch. I mostly stay over at the Curtis' during the week after long shifts at the dingo. I make pretty good tips there, so I try to to help Darry out with the bills, but of course he always refuses to take my money. So I just end up putting the money in his back pocket while he isn't looking.
He always gives me the most appreciative smile when he finds the money, that he told me to keep. What would he do with out me?
