Pulling myself out of my thoughts and remembering that I was cooking, I go to the oven seeing that my pies are golden brown and ready to come out. "Alright guys who's hungry??" I shout walking into the living room almost getting ran over by the stampede of hungry teenagers. Darry just looks at me from the kitchen table and laughs. "Alrighty then, eat up cause, we got chocolate cake for dessert". When I tell you Steve and Two Bits eyes got bigger than what I thought was humanly possible, I mean they got BIG.
After everyone scarfed down there pie and ate a WHOLE chocolate cake, gosh these kids are fucking animals. Two Bitch and Stevie decided to head home. My satanic little brother decided to leave to pick up some broads at bucks party. Johnny decided to sleep in the lot tonight. (No matter how much I tried to convince him to stay at the Curtis' house) Pepsi-Cola and Horseman went upstairs to their bed room for the night. I actually don't know where superdope is.
After washing all the dishes and cleaning the kitchen, I flop down on the couch exhausted, seeing Darry across the room in his chair reading a magazine . "Hey, Darebear ,what are you doing up?" I ask looking at the clock reading 10:45.
I get no response.
"Hey Dar are you okay?"
No response.
I get up and walk across the room to Darry, pulling the magazine out of his hands. "Hellooo do you no-" I stop mid sentence. Looking down to see the Darrel Curtis, the strongest man I know, with red puffy eyes and holding back tears. " Oh Darry what's wrong ?, please don't cry" i say as I bend down to hug him. Darry reaches up to wipe his tears." I don't know, it's just when you made my mom's pie for dinner it brought back so many memories and I just miss her so much" Darry said in an emotional tone. Darry stays strong and solid for Soda and Pony, but even the strongest greaser like Darry has feelings that need to be let out, his feelings, are just as important as anyone else's. Eww all this sappy shit.....I'm going soft.
"Oh I know, we all miss her dearly, but she is right here with us in all of our hearts. She's watching over you everyday, when she see's you sitting down and enjoying that meals she used to make, she is filled with happiness.
"You really think so" he said, starting to let his voice harden again.
" Absolutely now stop all that crying she wouldn't want to see you cry over her, and seeing you cry makes me want to cry and-
" Winstons don't cry" we say in unison sharing a laugh. " Correct" I say I stand up grabbing my keys heading towards the door.
"Hey Lilah!" Darry calls out. I turn around looking at him. "Do you mind staying here with me tonight, it's ok if you don't I know you want to check on Dally at-"
" Of course I'll stay superdope!!, scoot over!!, I exclaim with a smile as Darry shifts in his chair giving me a place to sit.
"Thank you, Lilah"
"For what, Dar?"
"For always staying by my side no matter what."
His statement needed no response, as we both know that nothing could break our bond. I have always had a soft spot for Darry. If Darry ever asked me to settle down and stop getting in trouble with the fuzz, I probably would. I think our friendship is worth more than showing some snooty socs how tough I am.
Thats why, laying here slowly falling asleep next to my best friend, I feel safe.Darry's POV
Having Delilah here next to me made me feel something I haven't felt in years I just don't know what I would do without her.
