I missed you

Delilah's POV
After Bucks party, time seemed to fly by. The last 2 weeks have been, filled with my usual shifts at the dingo and talk around town about tomorrow's drag race. I haven't been to the Curtis' in about a week, the longest time I've ever been away from that place. For some reason I'm not sure why but, I just felt like I don't belong over there recently. The only place I really go to is the DX and that's to check on my car.

Sodapop and Steve have been working on my car for about a week and they can't stop talking about how their gonna win and get so many hot broads. The boys know what they're doing when it comes to racing cars and stuff, but I can't help but feel nervous for tomorrow.
    When I first moved here from New York, I used to drag race for money to buy clothes and food for me and Dal. I know how dangerous it can get, I just dont know what I do if they got hurt. Damn I'm going soft.

    The Dingos pretty slow for it to be Friday evening but I figure at lot of greasers are preparing for the race tomorrow.

30 mins before my shift ends the chimes above the door ring, I look up from my magazine to see 2 familiar faces walk in and take a seat, It's Darry and.....her. Of course, they just had to come in on my shift, It's my god damn lucky day.

"Hi, welcome to the Dingo, what can I get started for y'all today?" I start off as I walk to the booth with my fakest smile.

Darry looks up from his menu, " Oh hey D, haven't seen you around much...I didn't know you were working tonight" Darry gives me a genuine smile.

" Hi, Darry and yea I'm just picking up a few hours" I give him a real smile. " And Slu-Kelsey it's always nice to see you." She sends me a dirty look then turns to Darry.

" Heyyy baby, what do you want to order" she drags out in that annoying voice of hers. Baby?!?!?! Am I missing something here?
"Baby?"
" Oh yea he didn't tell you? My Darry-poo asked me too be his girlfriend " She fluters her eyes and grabs his hand.
"Oh did he now?" I glance over at a flustered Darrel, " Well congratulations, you two make a beautiful couple." There's slight sarcasm in my voice.

" I know, we are just perfect for each other ". She rambles on about how they love each other and how she's never met anyone like him blah blah blah, I let her continue for a few minutes. That girls long-winded to say the least.

"Like I said you guys make a beautiful couple.....now what can I get you guys to eat? "

She gives me a blank look, then precedes to give me their orders.
After I take their orders to the kitchen, I find myself a nice comfy spot in the break room while their food is being made. I can't stand to be around or listen to Kelsey any longer than I have too.
I just don't understand how Darry likes her, he even likes her so much that he asked her to be his girlfriend? That is absolutely fucking crazy. I hope Darry knows what he's doing.

    By the time I took their food out my shift was over, so I grabbed my things and decided to walk to the Curtis' house. I wanted to hang out with the gang a bit, I really miss Ponyboy and Johnny.

   As I get closer to the house I hear the familiar sounds of chaos that I have grown fond of. Before I even reached the gate the door came swinging open.

"DELILAH" Two Bit comes running out full speed and crashes into me."Ive missed you"
" I missed you too Two Bitch". He helps me off the ground.

"Where have you been?" He asks, shaking off the insult.

" oh you know.....around" I state plainly as we walk back in the house. He sits on the couch returning his attention back to Mickey Mouse. I walk into the kitchen to see, Steve, Soda and Dallas playing some card game.

" Well if it isn't my dearest sister , blessing us with her presence....after what? A week? " Dally says in a snarky tone while lighting a cigarette.

" Well YOU are finally worthy of it, I see them everyday" I reply, pointing at Steve and soda, taking the cigarette from his hand." Wheres Pony and Johnny?"

"Upstairs" Dally states grabbing at my hands trying to take the weed back.

" thanks" I swat his hand away and head up stairs to Pony and Sodas room.

       I knock on the door...... no response, I open the door, but no ones there, the room is quiet, nothing but a whistling breeze blowing through the open window. They must be on the roof. I walk over to the window, I leave the weed in the ashtray. and step out on to the roof. " Ponyboy ?"

"Over here".

  I look over to where the boys are sitting and I carefully walk over to them. " The sky looks so beautiful tonight". I sit between them looking down at the ground.
" It's kinda crazy how everyone, everywhere looks up to the same sky."

"Yea it humble's you in a way I guess". Pony replies laying his head on my shoulder.

"I missed you, D". Johnny yawns laying on my lap.

"I missed you too, JohnnyCakes, I missed both of you" I say in a soft tone.

"Why don't you come around anymore" Ponyboy asks.
" Well I-" Ponyboy cuts me off.

" Is it because of Darry's new girlfriend? Nobody in the gang likes her you know? She's real annoying. And she's not as pretty as you. " He stammers out in 1 breath.

" No it's not because of her, I've just been...........real busy, I'll try to be here more" I say looking over at him. Is that really true? Does everyone actually not like Kelsey ? I mean it's not hard to believe.

"Promise?"

"I pinky promise" I reach my hand out grabbing his pinky with mine.

Me and the boys sit for hours after the sun goes down just catching up on life. We talk about school, girls and just about everything else under the sun. I love moments like these in life, when everything stops and it feels like we are the only people on the whole entire planet. Nothing else matters but us right now and we may not be blood, but this.......is forever my family.
