I thought it woud be great to begin the new year with our beloved Ferid Bathory as the lovely boy described in All Too Well, I hope you'll like it!

"Ferid you say?"

Ferid.

The name echoed like a gentle caress in her mind. The gentle caress of a blade still too sharp, paralysed in time, impossible to blunt. A blade that kept cutting relentlessly in the same place, preventing her wound from healing.

And so each time that name came to her ears, but it was not only that that made her experience that hell with breathtaking intensity. Because, even though some time had passed, she still felt paralysed in that false illusion of happiness, the images of their story presented themselves to her as clear as photographs. Images linked to an intricate vortex of emotions, difficult to process, difficult to stop, but which represented well in her eyes what had been between them: a vortex of passion that had overwhelmed them.

But vortexes also bring destruction, and after the catastrophe it was difficult to return to her former life. How could she do that when it seemed to her that she had lost an important piece of herself forever?

A piece that had remained in the cold hands of Ferid Bathory.

She remembered with extreme clarity the first few times his hands had brushed against her skin, bringing a gust of cold winter, and yet... and yet there was something warm in that touch, something that inevitably made her feel at home.

And she liked that, but she still hadn't realised that travelling with Ferid would be like a rollercoaster ride. A crescendo of emotions that eventually leaves you breathless.

She reached for the vampire's hands almost absentmindedly. Ferid smiled softly at her spontaneous gesture and entwined his hands in hers laughing.

"I don't think I can warm your hands."

The girl fixed her eyes in his. "But I like shaking your hands, they still give me a warm feeling..." She felt her cheeks turn red and shifted her gaze.

It was her first real relationship and she still had to learn to deal with all the newness that entailed. Including seeking physical contact with the other, but surprisingly, with Ferid it all seemed so pleasant.

She felt the vampire's fingers brush her face gently before she felt his lips make her own. (Y/n) let herself go into that sweet kiss. Those magical moments were what she missed the most, although they had lasted only a short time, they almost tore her apart more than anything else. Because they showed the feeling that had driven them to seek each other out, to want each other.

Even though he had never used the word love with her.

But it had still been love, hadn't it?

"Maybe I should get you a nice heavy blanket, what do you say?"

"Occasionally you remember I'm a human with certain physiological needs?"

She moved closer to the vampire. He held her to him gently.

"I would also know another way to raise your body temperature..."

Ferid whispered evasively.

And (Y/n) had let herself go completely to him. Their bodies intertwined, joined in an act of love. Their moans of pleasure overlapping and unceasing.

Even after he had made her his (Y/n) waited anxiously for the vampire to express his feelings for her, as his hands caressed her bare skin she always waited for the vampire to formulate the magical words I love you, but they never came.

Ferid never used the word love with her. Never.

Like the leaves in autumn, slowly falling until they give way to the first snow, so too the magic of their story was not meant to last.

"(Y/n), what on earth are you going to think about?"

The girl looked at the road ahead, taken aback by the sudden harshness of his tone.

"You've hardly given me a look..." She whispered uncertainly.

"We were with other people, what did you expect, for me to praise only you, huh?"

"Are you that ashamed of me?"

Frost fell between the two.

"Who ever said I was ashamed? How could I... Who put that in your head?"

The girl did not answer.

You put it in my head.

"When we're with others... you're always so distant... like you don't want to be near me."

"You're crazy." And he started the car.

(Y/n) laid his head to the window, wondering where they were going to end up, if they were ever going to get anywhere. The further they drove, the more she sensed the fragilities between them, the more the idea crystallised that they would never have a common goal. How could they?

They had, yes, decided not to reveal their story, but (Y/n) feared she was beginning to understand why the vampire had decided to act the way he did, he didn't want anyone to think he could love a stupid human.

Tears had begun to fall inexorably as she thought about this.

Had she really been so naive and stupid with Ferid?

She kept hammering herself with that question and almost jolted as she felt the vampire's icy hand tighten around hers.

"Are you still thinking those things?"

The tone was definitely softer than before, but she didn't feel able to speak. It was as if the pieces of the puzzle were finally starting to fit together.

He doesn't love me. He never did.

"You made me feel out of place."

"Of course, how can a little girl feel comfortable around vampires? It's inevitable, my dear." Ferid spat venomously.

"Have you suddenly realised I'm a little girl?!"

This time it was Ferid who kept silent.

(Y/n) looked at him in terror.

"It can't last forever." He whispered weakly.

The girl felt her breath catch. She stared at the emptiness for a long time, then got out of the car without a word, in tears.

Her gaze fell on her figure in her new evening dress and flame-red lipstick, she had wanted to dare. In the faint hope that her Ferid would still decide to show up.

He had promised her before the discussion that he would not miss her birthday party. And she wanted him to see her that way, wanted to make him proud to have her by his side.

"You're beautiful!"

"You look great!"

Several compliments reached her ears, but she was distracted. She continued to keep her gaze fixed on the door. Struggling in the hope that he might finally arrive. Maybe he wanted to give her a hard time, maybe he wanted to surprise her. And finally tell her she was the most beautiful of the evening.

It was time to blow out the candles.

Time to unwrap the presents.

The time to give up all hope completely.

The time to cry every tear in her body.

I'm sorry I couldn't make it.

And then she understood.

And she cried and wondered if she would ever survive this.
