Mother and Daugter Bonding

Lucy wakes up with a start. "What a weird dream." She blushes madly. "Natsu.....and me......together with.....kids."

She gulps. "I don't think he likes me like that. But it felt so real."

She walks to the kitchen to grab a glass of water, as she passes the couch, she notices the sleeping teen.

'Kayla' sighs in her sleep, "Don't worry Mom I'll save you I promise."

Lucy smiles. 'Such weird kids.' She walks into the kitchen and pours herself some water.

As she walks back to her bed, she steals another glimpse at the young girl on her couch. 'She sleeps just like Natsu.'

Lucy sneaks into her bedroom and falls in to a light sleep.

A few hours later she is awoken by the sound of crying. Lucy stands up and walks towards the source.

Layla is sitting on the couch her face buried in her knees.

"Kayla." She says softly as she sits on the couch. Layla quickly wipes her tears away.

"I am so sorry. I didn't mean to wake you up." She tries to smile but fails.

"I lost my mother when I was young." Lucy begins, not realizing the girl next to her knows the story by heart. "I was devastated. My father grew cold and distanced himself from me. I know it isn't the same as what you are going through. But I know the pain of losing a parent, both of them."

Layla, this time, manages a real smile. She hugs her mother. "Thank you so much."

Lucy is, at first, taken by surprise. In the end she simply wraps her arms around the smaller girl. Something about it just felt so natural, Lucy could not quite figure out what though.

She whispers to the girl, "Now go to bed we have a long day ahead of us in the morning."

Layla nods, "Goodnight and thanks again."

Lucy smiles and stands up. "Sleep well see you in the morning."

Layla watches the younger version of her mom walk away, "Goodnight, Mom. I love you. She buries her head in the pillow and falls back asleep.
