Chapter 16

We looked at Ruby who seemed as if she had seen a ghost. I wanted to laugh but Lucas gave me a pointed look and I kept it in. Ruby got off the bed looking as if she came out of a daae and ran towards the door. Before we could understand anything she dashed outside and we heard a scream.

I quickly took after her. When I stepped out I saw Xavier holding Ruby by her arm and stopping her fall. Lucas snickered then started laughing. I too joined in after seeing Ruby and Xav both blush.

We didn't stop laughing for a minute and my stomach was now aching. I finally looked at Xavier's face and he was scowling. Ruby was still blushing and hiding behind Xavier. "Care to explain? Lucas" Xav asked. I looked at Lucas.

"You see Ruby here asked where you were. And we said you went to the basement and we heard a gunshot as a joke. She ran out to make sure you were okay." He explained.

"Aww you two love birds! Anyway now that you Ruby have seen Xav. I need alone time with you. Shoo both of you little insects." I said sneering at Lucas and Xav.

"Yes queen. Long live the queen. All hail the queen." Lucas bowed low and went back slowly. He could be such a drama queen at times. Once Xav made sure that Ruby was okay he too left after giving me a look.

I took Ruby's arm and pulled her inside along with me.

"Do you really like Xav? Like really? What did you see in him? He has been rejected more times than being defeated by me in sparring. Trust me that's a lot. Are you a werewolf?" She gave me a weird look.

"Werewolves? You know they see their soulmates and know they are destined to be together and fall instantly in love? Honestly, don't you know what wattpad is?"

"Did I miss out much if I say I don't know what youre talking about? And to answer your question he is okay I guess."

"You missed on dear life. Don't be shy, Xav is likeable. Not as much as me but hey it's your choice and he likes you too from the looks of it. Don't worry, he is a great guy and you have my blessings. I like you."

We then chatted for some time. It has been a long time since I have been in a girls company and it is refreshing no offence to Lily. We were called for dinner and it seemed that Vince and the others were done with their interrogation.

"Did you find anything?" Xavier asked Vince.

"Nothing. He was knocked out." Ruby flinched at this. I held her hand from under the table comfortingly. This poor girl.

During the time we talked I got to know that her family was involved with the mafia but not that high in the league. She was shielded from her family's world by her own family. They did it to protect her. This was her first exposure to the mafia world. I promised to teach her to fight and defend herself.

After dinner we went to our rooms. I was laying in my bed in a tank top and shorts when i heard a knock. "Come in"

The door opened and Xavier came in. I sat on my bed. He was hesitating. His fingers were occupied by tangling in themselves.

"You are nervous of the answer you are gonna get when you ask your question. Ask." I said

"Well... Yeah. Did you -uhm- you know."

"No I don't." Oh I knew precisely what.

"Did Ruby- What did you talk about with Ruby?" he asked finally.

"Oh you know that she shouldn't fall for you. You are in the mafia so ehh." I shrugged. His eyes grew wide. "Chill, she likes you. Take 2-3 days and then ask her out, don't ask her right away it would be weird and too early." He sighed in relief. He came up to my bed and got comfortable.

"What did you decide on? Will you stay or go?" He asked.

"Ughh. I don't know I'm thinking of opting for the third option."

"And what's that?"

"Start my own. I don't want to leave Blood Rose but I also wanna join Twins. If I start my own Mafia, I can have both and none. There would be no tension between you two, and I would also have the support of two big mafias to get up."

"Well you can but how will you?"

"I need to figure just that. I need recruits and a right hand. I also don't want to burden myself with this right now. Not after the attack anyway." I said.

"Wish you the best of luck then. Good night." Xav said heading to the door.

"Hey Xav! You better treat Ruby nicely; she truly is a gem. If you make her cry I will personally come and break your legs and treat them and break them again." He chuckled and left, closing the door behind him.

I switched off the light and went to sleep.
