Hillary Clinton- ‘Cold fish WOMAN?’
As Hillary steps down as the US Secretary Of State- I take this moment of her departure to assess her amazing colorful rumors and her boring achievements/failures (Well, depends upon how you see it).
Remember this ‘Cold Fish’ (courtesy: Monica Lewinsky) who supposedly threw a lamp at her husband in a fit of rage right after they moved in the White House as her husband was ogling some hot-beauty in the pre-inaugural show.
Yes, Madame Secretary, a future US presidential candidate is one of the most admired and hated woman in the world. Truly, it’s a unique phenomenon.
Let me be clear; I like Hillary Clinton. She’s smart, she’s tough, and she’s ambitious— all important attributes of success in public life. As secretary of state, Clinton has advanced policies that I consider wise (the “reset” with Russia) and unwarranted (the intervention in Libya). But she has always done so with energy and skill.
Clinton has been able to subtly mastermind some moments of great diplomatic effort, from forming a coalition to stop Qaddafi’s massacres in Libya (though some see this as aggressive action justified by humanitarian intervention) to convincing Russia and China in the UN Security Council to help isolate Iran and North Korea (whether right or wrong, she succeeded in her pursuit).
Clinton has stressed the importance to all at the Department of State of engaging civil society and making sure that the voices of the people are heard. Most evident in this pursuit have been her efforts in supporting women's rights around the world. Much like she did as First Lady, Clinton has continued her commitment to the advancement of girls and women around the world. She even established the position of Ambassador for Women.
We enjoy ripping apart every ‘famous’ person who even steps out of a line a bit.
She has been declared characterless as well as appreciated for her wit and charm, a woman who was considered too stoic and cool-headed as she handled her husband’s famous affair and simultaneously, hailed for her courage and intelligence.
I always say, you need to be famous enough to be rumored about. Ma’am, you are definitely there.
Not only were you declared expressionless and unlovable but also bisexual and having your own harem of women hidden in some closet in the White House.
Why we are proud of you? You became famous-not as President’s wife or someone’s daughter but for who you are. You carved out your own identity and in sphere dominated by men. I have read countless articles, where she is saluted for that- For being a woman.
The question that I want to put forward today is- not if she was politically right or not. That debate can ensue forever.
BUT.....
Is it right to revalue or devalue her achievements/failures just because she is a WOMAN?
I remember this article which praised her for being present in the conference room and witnessing the killing of Bin Laden. They hailed her ‘awesome’ because she was a woman and that was a gruesome killing.
Simone de Beauvoir once said- “I am too intelligent, too demanding, and too resourceful for anyone to be able to take charge of me entirely. No one knows me or loves me completely. I have only myself”.
The assumption in feminism is that women are not treated equally to men!
What I want to know is; when they are, do they take criticism wholeheartedly? Or the favoritism shown is more appealing?
Is this ‘woman’ who held her fort in a man’s world being praised highly for being just a woman in a man’s world?
Isn’t that now, anti- feminist!
Or, Are we ready to grill her for her mistakes (case in example- diplomatic mission in Benghazi), appreciate her for her success and judge her for her actions as the Secretary of State and not as the ‘woman Secretary’?
I am only saying that, Criticism should be based on the position not on the gender. Will we ever separate the two?
America, how will you judge her when and if ‘she’ stands for the 2016 Presidential elections.........
