He was frozen, and I'm not talking like, "Oh no! I was just about to hurt my beloved daughter!? I could never do that!" kind of frozen. It was like I had grabbed a remote control and hit the pause button. There was no way this could be real.
Was this another one of his tricks?
Filled with so much confusion, I began to wave my hand in front of his face. Not that I wanted him to beat me up, but the man wasn't even blinking, and it was starting to freak me out. It was then that I noticed the ring on my finger was giving off a subtle glow, and my suspicions started to grow.
I wonder... surely not.... Logan did say it would protect me, but surely, he didn't mean it literally.
I decided to test the theory out by carefully manoeuvring my body out from in front of my father and moved a few steps behind him. Further enough away so he couldn't reach me, and I slowly slid the ring off my finger. Just like that, my father was un-paused in time and went straight for the wall where my body was moments ago. A hole formed in the wall from his force, and relief flooded my stomach. Probably because it wasn't the one receiving the damage.
"W-what!? You were just here! How the fuck did you do that!?" He screamed.
Still in disbelief myself, I retorted, "Maybe you've just had too much to drink..." and as the sentence left my mouth, I watched the steam exit his ears. Here comes the real test.
"How dare you tell me how much I can drink!" He yelled as he walked closer towards me. "You want to know why I drink this much? It's because your whore mother gave birth to an ugly sack of shit. Like mother like fucking daughter!" As he started to raise his hand to, I assume, slap me I slid the ring back onto my finger and again, he was frozen in his stance to hit me.
My brain still wasn't comprehending how it was possible, but it was happening, and I didn't want to stick around to see how long it's effects would last. So, I ran upstairs and started to pack what little things I had into a small bag. I figured as long as I left, the man would unfreeze and I assume he wouldn't bother to come looking for me. At least not at this time of night. Once I was packed, I ran downstairs and straight out the front door, not taking a second to look back.
Logan's P.O.V
It pained me to leave her. Just thinking about what the man has done to her, makes me want to rip him to shreds. I definitely would have at the time, if it weren't for the fact that she still has no idea what I am... and that seeing her deadbeat dad in ribbons might cause some trauma.
My beta and I arrived back to our pack house to see complete chaos. A complete battle had started raging and from what I could tell, based off the rancid smell, we were dealing with rogues. By using the pack link, I had discovered that my parents were so far unharmed, but still fighting for their pack. I was about to do the same.
"Kayden, go to the west wall. Gather all the women and children, guide them to the house. The guards will keep them safe. Go now." I stated in my Alpha voice, Kayden nodded immediately and went to do as I stated.
I surveyed the battle and headed straight for the thick of it.
Shifting into my wolf, I dived straight for the neck of a nearby rogue. Instantly snapping it into two. Another tried swiping their claws at my stomach, I quickly jumped out of the way and used my hind legs to push the rogue into a nearby tree, knocking him out. Instantly, another rogue jumped onto my backhand started clawing at my neck with their rotting teeth. I quickly jumped onto my back, landing on top of him, and got up onto my feet. Diving straight for his neck, snapping it and moving onto the next one.
I had one second to look up and try and figure out why they were attacking us so sporadically. It didn't make any sense. Whilst fighting, I mind-linked the Alpha, my dad.
"What is happening? Why are they fighting like this? Surely they see they are heavily outnumbered and I know they are stubborn creatures, but surely they know this is a losing battle?"
It took a second for my dad to reply, "I noticed that too. Perhaps it's a diversion?"
But for what? Just as we had started pondering, the rogues started to back off, most running away or dragging their injured with them. How odd.
"Um Logan, we have a problem!!" Kayden mind-linked our pack.
"Kayden, what is it!?"
"I gathered the women and children and started to take them back to the pack house, and it seems the rogues beat us here. The place is trashed, the guards are all out."
"Perhaps they thought we were inside?" My mother stated in the mind-link.
"Perhaps Luna, but it looks like they were looking for something." Instantly my family and I ran back to the pack house sharing frightened looks. We ran in our wolf forms and shifted once we got back to the house. My mother rushed to soothe the rest of the pack, whilst my dad and I went to see if we were right in our assumptions.
We briskly walked over the debris and broken glass towards the library. Most of the books were thrown across the ground and three of our guards had their necks snapped and were tossed around the room. But, it was then we noticed our family picture tossed to the ground and our family safe wide open. My father and I shared a horrified look.
It looks like they found exactly what they were looking for.
This isn't good, this isn't good at all.
