I have no idea why my 'dad' chose such a small town. I understand that it is secluded and that there obviously isn't many people here. However, due to it being such a small town, gossip spreads faster. Let's just hope people don't suspect anything from our little family dynamic.
"Alright slut we are almost there," my father said from the front seat.
I understand that you might be a little confused. Where is my mother? Why does he act the way he does towards me? Why do we move so frequently? I guess I better start answering your questions...
My mother passed away 5 years ago. I loved her with my whole heart, but the woman was an idiot. I wish I could say she died of natural causes. I wish that I could tell you that it was a car accident, heart attack or even some sort of disease! Not that I wish any of that upon any soul. But it wasn't any of that...she died because she stayed with my father. Her husband. I think of that horrid day all the time...
Flashback
Stupid homework. Whoever created homework was an ass. Don't we work hard enough at school? Ugh. Stupid homework...
"How dare you accuse me of such thing! Who do you think you are!?"
Is that screaming coming from downstairs? I got up from my desk and opened my bedroom door, making sure it didn't creak. I went to the staircase and sat down on the steps, peering through the rails into the kitchen. My mother and father stood there. Mother looked frightened whilst my father held an angry scowl on his face.
"I-I'm sorry Richard. I-it w-w-was just that I-I saw lipstick o-on your c-collar and girls p-panties in your t-truck," my mother said cowering into the furthest part of the kitchen, away from father.
"So!? That is my personal business, nothing you should be concerned about!" he replied taking a large swig of water? Why did he grimace?
"B-but I am y-your wife?" she replied while a small droplet fell onto her cheek.
"I only married you so that I would become your beneficiary. Stupid woman!"
"You m-married me for m-my money?"
"Isn't that what I just said!?" he yelled back plopping his glass of water onto the counter. Maybe we should get the plumbing checked, why did the water taste funny?
"B-but Richard. I l-love you! I love you so much. We had Arabella together, she is s-so gorgeous, and we are s-such a happy f-family! I-I'm sorry for accusing you of cheating on me. I-I know you love me and that you don't mean the things you're s-saying. You h-have just had a little bit too much to drink, a-and that is totally u-understandable baby. I understand y-your mother recently- "
"You are a fucking bitch!" my father yelled grabbing the glass off the counter and slamming it onto her head. She collapsed onto the floor, unconscious. I gasped and held my hand over my mouth. Tears were streaming down my face like a waterfall. Father turned towards me and my eyes widened. A malicious smile fell upon his face and he continued to beat my mother. Kick after kick, punch after punch and all I did was sit there. I didn't scream, I didn't call for help, all I did was cry and muffle my whimpers with my hand.
Flashback over
The neighbours were concerned with the amount of yelling that they called the cops. My father hid the body and washed his hands with the new soap mother had bought that morning. All he had to do was get rid of the carpet and it was like nothing happened. Before the cops arrived, Richard told me to go to my room and do my homework and if I was to say anything, that I would end up like my mother. Richards excuse for it all was just that we were having an argument over my said homework and that my mother was out grocery shopping. He made a joke about how teenagers are these days and the cops laughed. They laughed... The case was dropped after that. No one was close enough to my mother to worry or file a missing person report, she had no family. No one cared, except me.
Richard got his money. However, I received half of it. This didn't make Richard very happy. Why doesn't he just kill me you ask? Two reasons.
He's hoping that by beating me constantly and keeping me vulnerable, that I will give him all the money once I turn 18.It is too suspicious. "MOTHER AND DAUGHTER FOUND DEAD FIVE YEARS APART. HUSBAND/FATHER STILL ALIVE. CLAIMS LIFE INSURANCE" would be spread across the front page of all newspapers.
He may think what he is doing is going to work, but it isn't. I am not going to break at all costs. As soon as I turn 18, I am running away. As far away as possible and hopefully, with the help of mum's money, I will survive. At least I will be free.
Freedom. What a beautiful seven letter word.
