「Chapter 39」

(Cordelia's Perspective)

"Cordelia? Is everything alright? You look distracted." Clark had held onto my hand and gave it a light squeeze for comfort.

"I'm fine." I lied. I wasn't sure how to continue on with the night given the information which had been dumped on me not too long ago, but it wouldn't be right of me to go back to the hotel early.

This is my cousins big day, but I found it hard to be happy knowing the circumstances of this wedding.

Not only that, but also personal reasons of my own regarding my conflicting emotions.

Clark could tell I was being dishonest with him and further asked, "Are you sure you're alright? I'm your boyfriend Cordelia. You can talk to me about anything."

I always hated being dishonest, but I couldn't tell him what was really going on. Not yet at least. For now I just had to come up with something. "I'm just feeling overwhelmed is all. I mean, it's never really hit me until today that my cousin and I are finally all grown up, you know?"

"Its just a part of life, Cordelia. We all gotta grow up some day. Besides, you're far too young to be worrying about getting old." Flashing me one of his charming grins I smiled back at him.

Though I didn't love him I still cared about Clark and valued his company. Still, I think it'd be best if I find myself a distraction for the remainder of the night. "I'm going to get myself a drink. You need anything?"

"I'll be fine with just my glass of water, but thank you."

Heading over to where they kept refreshments I found Two-bit standing idly while flirting with another guest. All romantic passes stopped however when he spotted me. "I'll be right back with you." He had told her before approaching me.

"Hey Cordy. You doin' alright?"

I shrugged. "I'm trying to be."

"I guess Dallas actually went through with tellin' you then. Wasn't sure he really would. Hope he was at least kind about dropping the big news on you." He had worried.

I nodded my head. "He was, still, it didn't lessen the impact of the situation. I mean going to war? What is Steve thinking?" He had to be out of his mind. "I can't even imagine what Evie must be feeling."

"Tell me about it. Poor girl looks like she's been tryin' not to cry all day." Two had commented. "Although, aside from the emotional bride you dont seem to be all too happy yourself either. Even before Dal told you the news."

"Is it that obvious?" I asked him.

"You've always been easy to read." He teased. "By any chance, does this have anythin' to do with your new beau hunk?"

I wanted to roll my eyes at what he referred to Clark as but I was too shocked to do so because of how spot on his assumptions were. "How did you. . .?"

"How you are around him is nothing close to how you were when you were with Soda. You also don't look at him the way you do at Dallas." He pointed out.

"You mean annoyed?" I joked.

"You know exactly what look Im talkin' about, sugar. Dont play dumb with me." Two had half-heartedly scolded me. "So sock it to me. What's wrong with you and prince charmin'?"

"I like him, but not in a romantic kind of way." I confessed. "In fact there's someone else I feel that way for." I knew I didn't have to get specific with who I was referring to. Two was smart enough to figure it out with what little was said and the way I said it.
